foraker Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Is it a discovery if we already knew about it? This was the big thing back in the late 70's early 80's. Let's see...the lead author's from RAND, not the USGS....hmmm....the timing seems a bit suspicious...hmmmm. Sounds more like: Have desired result. Create new report supporting desired result. Implement desired result. Where have I seen this before? Quote
k2glfpro Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Maybe we can use it to start another war... Quote
Dru Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 It'd be simpler to just get the archaea to make us oil on the surface than to dig down there to get them. Quote
murraysovereign Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Just be patient - global warming will eventually heat the shales sufficiently to release the oil. Then we can scoop it up as it bubbles to the surface. Simple. Quote
mec Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 it is time to buy land and mineral rights in Colorado? Quote

Implement desired result. Where have I seen this before? My dad is one of the 36 suckers who invested in this decades ago when the gov't came and offered it as a tax shelter to this group of folks. Years later, the gov't changed the law and went back to each of the 36 and told them that their tax shelter was illegal: they had to pay the gov't back the money saved thru the shelter, plus fees, plus interest for all the years since the original transaction. Don't EVER trust our gov't. Quote
Dechristo Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 You should have seen the exodus of thousands of workers from northern Colorado when oil shale development went bust in the winter/spring of '82. Quote
catbirdseat Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 That was a bad time all around for the oil industry. My great uncle in Houston lost his shirt on oil investments. Quote
archenemy Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 That sux. I hate to hear about this kind of stuff. Quote
