One doesn't need to look towards oil revenue as a source of funding for various militant Islams. America's Cold War-era funding of fundamentalist schools, arms proliferation, support of Arab dictatorships, the suppression of secular alternatives, and networking of military bases in the Arab heartland have been amply documented as sources of the rise of Islamic fundamentalisms.
