glacier Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Road-tripping thourgh NW Wyoming in a few weeks, and was thinkign on the Winds for a day or two - is anyone familiar with any moderates (e.g. Ingalls, Da Toof) that are reasonable approaches/GF-friendly? thanks Quote
Dechristo Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Eight miles in to the Cirque of the Towers from Big Sandy Trailhead. Once you're at the Cirque, every footstep will have been worth it. Quote
Alex Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 S face of Pingora is pretty short and user friendly. One of the few places on earth where nuts are the bomb and cams completely useless. Quote
spicoli11 Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Double on the DeC.....big sandy trailhead. The cirque is well worth the trip.... the 8 miles go by easy. Quote
griz Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 yeah, wow... "a day or two" and the Winds is nearly a contradiction in terms. To climb in the Cirque you would really need 3 days min...especially to make it GF friendly. 2 days for hike in/out and 1 to climb with an early start. Other options would be Square Top's SE Face (5.6)from the Green River Lakes area as it is easier, shorter hiking.Pretty awesome area but not the Cirque, for sure. You could also hit Haystack Mtn sort of just west of Big Sandy Lake. Easier access than the Cirque and could be done in 2 days. Gorgeous glacier carved valley, too. Cliche but true...bug dope and deadly afternoon boomers. Quote
