Billygoat Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Bad news RIP I wonder if they were coming off the ledges or were actually climbing straight up the chute? Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Sounds like it was the exit chute. Climbers have fallen of the Ledges/ Chute and survived, but it's a long way down. Quote
Kraken Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Man, that's awful...and kinda creepy. We were on the exit chute part after we continued the climb after the ledges in March, it would be a long fall down that thing. Quote
skyhigh Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Here's another more detailed article. Bummer click here for the News Tribune article Quote
soggyendo34 Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 The two climbers where ascending the gib ledges. The fall happend at the top of the gib chute. The climber fell down the chute 800-1000'. His partner down climbed the gib chute and started CPR but couldnt get a pulse. Quote
Kraken Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Kinda weird isn't it Andy? Knowing we were there justa few months ago? Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 I thought we were maybe sissies at the time for placing flukes on the exit chute. I feel better now about that decision. Quote

As a running belay or an actual belay? This over a picket? Was it pretty soft? I haven't used a fluke in years, but I guess that's only becasue a picket always seems to suffice. There are a couple of sections that are almost better to do in the dark so you don't see what the runout is like. Quote
Billygoat Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 hey, there's another thread tackling these issues... Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 As a running belay or an actual belay? This over a picket? Was it pretty soft? I haven't used a fluke in years, but I guess that's only becasue a picket always seems to suffice. It was a running belay and we used three flukes. Pickets would have been absolutely useless, even as deadmen. This was winter conditions. There are a couple of sections that are almost better to do in the dark so you don't see what the runout is like. I hear ya. Quote
