Steddy
just curious if any input is out there on binding location with these. old pair of silvretta's, old, free (no, i was not a snowblader or whatever these are) gaper skis - 85 cm, 115 mm waist, symmetrical side cut, tip & tail identical. i am wondering if i should just go with the boot center at the waist or if there could be any advantage to mounting them back of center a cm or so. i know it's a little trivial with this short a board, but i have floatation & stride curiosities. i've mounted several skis - tele & alpine, and played with different mounting positions, so extra points for good technical advice. Squid
oh. Â sorry I was excited by the title, but it was just a tease. Â carry on.

K_Y_L_E
Well unfortunately I do not have a ton of advice for you. I have a pair of Karhu Metas (120cm) that I am looking to do the same thing with. I will probably mount them back just a bit. My biggest problem right now is that I have no bindings. If you find another pair of old silvrettas lying around for cheap let me know! and let me know how you like your set up once you have tried it out. Steddy
yes, back a bit ~1cm seems like my hunch. i was gonna be doing this today to take out this week (hyalite), but i'm going to have to wait to order skins (old info told me i could get them by the meter at MEC - not anymore). i'll have a spare one to sell then if anyone's interested (to cut in half). i had a connection years ago with a small community outing club like big sisters/bros or something that had a ton of old 10th division skis, so i hooked up all my friends and then some. i think my attention was caught at a ski swap - keep 'yer eyes open. Â i might be able to borrow some of those karhu's. you like 'em? just want to be able to lock back down training heel mode? i award you 5 points. fishstick
If willing to pay (and travel), take them to MEC in Vancouver and ask to speak to Bryan Preston (head ski tech). He mounted Silvrettas to my wildly sidecut 120s, and another pair to a friend's 100s. He's very, very solid at the task of tricky mounting jobs. Phone first because he only works four days a week - goes skiing on the rest... Â GB
Steddy
that's coo - thanks. does he have access to just 2 meters of 130mm wide skin? mebbe i'll find out. that's gotta be oh, 7 points to you.
David_Parker
On teletips.com there is a new concept known as center ball of foot (CB) goes at center of running surface of ski (CRS). You might check that out. To find center of of running surface, push ski down on a table push a thin piece of cardboard or credit card until it contacts ski and mark the ski contact point at tip and tail and find middle. If that works well, you owe me a  I've been thinking of this same setup as I have an older pair of Silverettas. Looks way better than slowshoes! Where did you find those things and are there more? Steddy
wow. i mean well... that's a little incomplete for 'cipherin, but i'm sure i can sift thru ttips to find the juice. maybe i'll discover my center of running running surface and know what it means. i don't really have the patience for technical ski bs anymore unless i'm 'in the moment'. yes, your points are working towards a possible . i got the 'things' on permanent 'can i borrow these?' at least five years ago from a woman who runs a demo-ing business (ski hill to ski hill with a bunch of companies' gear), and i helped out a few times. there were many of these, no one ever took 'em out when i was around; i don't think they're missed. someone should find a cheap source of these. PM if you want an idea to try. i bet there's a bunch doing nothing these days, and if anyone ever can tell me they're better than slowshoes before i find out for myself.... one toy i've laughed at and never been ashamed of is the Kneissel Bigfoots - toes on the tips and all. Sweet for skiing down hiking trails where you'd be hurting on anything resembling a 'real' ski. with both, i find a reverse tele stance to be stable in a nut shell. dbb
what the heck is a reverse tele stance? Â I'm thinking about trying to modify the firn skis binding that I have (which is fixed) to have some pivot point and fix point. Let me know what you do for skins cuz I'd be interested. So far these things weight 5lbs/pair!
Steddy
what the heck is a reverse tele stance? i've been thinking about that too. really, just a spread out alpine turn would probably make a little more sense. a little more independent knee motion, ankle flex.... i was originally a tele skier so anyway. i'd love to hear others' skiing techniques with mtn boots on. i really find the old Granite Gear Tele Cuffs to help out big time with climbing boots. didn't get the project finished before MT, so no progress to report. using short, skinny 'real' skis here but man, i am sooo not the same schusser with those things!
