gyselinck Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 On the way to do some Vantage rock? Desperate to climb some ice? Stop at Umtanum falls and do some laps. The drip is the fattest I have ever seen it, about a foot thick as of 3 days ago. Perfect styrofoam ice. It appears to be melting during the day (temps in the 60's) and freezing at night. Very cool. gyselinck Posted March 10, 2005 Author Posted March 10, 2005 My friend was climbing ice in tee-shirt and shorts today. Super nice ice, way thick (still at least a foot thick, size doesnt seem to be changing), lots of fun. Quote
L0ngpause Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Umptaneum, that was fun, has it gotten bigger or smaller today? Maybe It'll be bigger after rain today. You are one steller feller, thanks Gyselinck. Quote
soggyendo34 Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Who would have thought there would be ice when the forecast is calling for highs in the 70's. Crazy stuff....climbing ice in the summer... Quote
gyselinck Posted March 10, 2005 Author Posted March 10, 2005 Next thing ya know, we will all be climbing nude. Then we'll have some real "ice porn" to post on cc.com. Good job today Andy! Quote
goatboy Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Sorry, I don't have a Vantage guidebook handy -- is this the big falls visible from the Sunshine Wall (upvalley) or elsewhere? How long is the approach? Thanks for any info! Quote
Alex Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 No, Umptaneum is no where near Vantage. Its near Ellensburg, out of town going N down some backroads. goatboy, you are thinking of Fugs Falls. Alex Quote
goatboy Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Thanks, I'm home now and will consult my WA Ice book, which is excellent, by the way. . . cheers. Quote
gyselinck Posted March 16, 2005 Author Posted March 16, 2005 No, Umptaneum is no where near Vantage. Its near Ellensburg, out of town going N down some backroads. goatboy, you are thinking of Fugs Falls. Alex No, out of town going S! You must be thinking of Skookumchuck Falls or Whiskey Dick Falls, Alex. Hey goatboy, if you want directions shoot me a pm and ill get some for you. Its kind of hard to find if your not familiar with the area. In fact, really hard to find...I bet it is still really nice, but remember its only like 30 feet tall, but its still fun to get some swings in if your driving by. Craig Quote
suckbm Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 i heard there are fish in the pond at the bottom of the ice that will nibble on your rope if you let it sag into the water Quote
gyselinck Posted March 16, 2005 Author Posted March 16, 2005 I heard there is a crazy guy with a shot gun who doesn't like people cutting through his land. Quote
