Dru
If not cloudy... AURORA ALERT: If it's dark where you live, look for auroras now. An extreme geomagnetic storm is in progress, sparking Northern Lights as far south as Colorado and Utah.

catbirdseat
From looking at the map, it appears that Washington could get some aurora action in two or three hours.

tomtom
St Helens looked like it was steaming today.
snoboy
The one in Iceland is cool... Helens seems to steam most everyday, and glow at night too. I don't think they are the cause of the aurora though.
catbirdseat
The Aurora is visible in Seattle now. It doesn't have a lot of color, but who cares? This is the first time I've ever seen it.

catbirdseat
The lights are faint because of the city lights but they are dancing rapidly, so you can tell they aren't just clouds.

snoboy
wow, just wandered through Alpinfox's link there, searching for places below 40... OK/AL/NC/TN/NM/GA!! Some of those were desribing rays and pulses and coulours, not just glows. TX even got a couple of reports of glows. That's like 30.48*N! Dru
The aurora is centered on the N Magnetic Pole not the N Pole though.
Alpinfox
It's goin' off right now!!! Check it out! I see pulses!
snoboy
Good point dru... magnetic pole being at about 73*N, but still, whatever... Aurora Borealis in Texas! C'mon, you gotta admit that's cool.
Alpinfox
Holy shit. I saw a lot of aurora displays when I lived in Alaska that were brighter and more colorful than this one, but I have NEVER seen anything anywhere near that dynamic! Pulses, shimmers, dancing waves and curtains... The pulses would start in the north and quickly spread southward brightening up the curtains of pale green. WOW!
