mike_m Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Was up there this morning--road's clear all the way to the TH. Pouring rain, though. Didn't feel the need to fully test out the shell gear again. Quote

man_vrs_mountain Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 yeah does anyone know how the ice is doing on baker? Quote
jmace Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 What is it you need to know? the glacier is still there, Mike M says you can drive to the trailhead, the weather is perfect for the next few days, no new snow..... sounds good to me I would be there if I didnt have to work Quote
mike_m Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Was up there again today, trail is mostly bare all the way to the cabin site, the low-angle part of the glacier is packed snow for easy walking, and the ice fall is still in great shape for serac-ing, despite a really brittle top layer; big bad plates in many places. Spectacular day. Quote
Don_Serl Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 the ice fall is still in great shape for serac-ing, despite a really brittle top layer; big bad plates in many places. Spectacular day. 4 of us there 11/11 too. superb day. but VERY platey ice - HUGE fractures nearly every placement on the shady walls. not a good idea soloing (at least, no more than a few feet off the ground, or in the sun where the ice had warmed a bit.) cheers, Quote
