Jeebus Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 i bought a used "Everest: Mountain without Mercy" book by Broughton Coburn (i like looking at pictures you know) and the private seller who sold it through amazon sent me a copy that is signed by Viesturs, Araceli Segarra, Jamling Norgay, a personal photo of Beck Weathers glued inside and a couple other signatures that I haven't been able to decipher yet. As a climbing enthusiast it is a pretty big deal for me...if only these people were better known to the rest of the world this might have been ebay material. just ranting coz I wanted to share my excitement. catbirdseat Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Why would someone want to sell something like that? It must have been acquired from an estate. Quote
Jeebus Posted October 15, 2004 Author Posted October 15, 2004 exactly. some unassuming person just sold it. I will scan the page with the signatures and post it. help me decipher the 2 other signatures that I haven't been able to read yet. its not brashears...isn't rob schauer either. that was the team that year in 1996. Thinker Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 If you're into this kind of thing, check out Chessler books. Here's the start of a recent email I got from them (the email goes on for several more pages, let me know if you want me to PM you the rest of the text...or just sign up for their mailing list): BOOKS SIGNED BY REINHOLD MESSNER AND PETER HABELER DEAR FRIENDS, This week we went to Europe to complete a four year project, getting all the books of Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler signed by those two immortal climbers. (This was our 7th foreign trip in the last two years to get books autographed!) Reinhold Messner's climbing accomplishments, especially his ascent of all 14 of the 8000 meter peaks have made him the world's greatest climber. What has also become evident is that he is history's greatest mountaineering author, having written over 60 books in 35 years. About twenty titles have been translated into English and all of those are listed below, including several that are quite scarce. Quantities are limited on most titles - we usually have one to ten of each. The only titles of which we have many of are ALL 14 EIGHT THOUSANDERS, and the new edition of BIG WALLS which are signed by Messner and Habeler, and have priced them a little lower. In some cases we have both UK and USA editions and when they are identical, we will ship whichever copy looks better. Order by E-Mail, phone or on our website. Details are at the bottom. E-mail is info@chesslerbooks.com Phone is 800 654-8502 Website is www.chesslerbooks.com Michael Chessler Quote

catbirdseat Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Okay, I finally got around to looking in Breasheares' book, High Exposure. Besides the team members already mentioned (Viesturs, Breashears, Segarra, Norgay and Schauer), there was also Sumiyo Tsuzuki, Paula Viesturs (basecamp manager), Wongchu Sherpa and Jangbu Sherpa.
