kdewit Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I am planning on a 9-11 day ski trip on the Haute from Chamonix to Zermot Switzerland in April. It is hut to hut. Just bring backcountry ski gear and $500. Food, beer, Europeans are waiting. Be a strong skier. No guide needed. Plan to randonee. Need company. You in? Quote
JERRY_SANCHEZ Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 How much will be the plane ticket? (Estimate) Quote
David_Parker Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I concur! Did it in 1987 on tele skis. I wonder how many people on snowboards do it! Anyone want beta, I'm happy to provide. btw, we did it in 7 with a rest/snow day. 9-11 days will allow you to hang in the cool huts and day tour out of them. Quote
russ Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Not a lot of pre-planning needed, but you might want to make reservations for your first few huts. It can get pretty crowded in April. I don't know how common it is, but the Chanrion Hut did turn some skiers away the night we stayed there. Â You may be familiar with the route etc., but I found the Cosley/Houston site to be a great resource. Quote
Dr_Crash Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Oh oh, I'd be interested if the boss (wife) lets me go ... And I am a native French speaker, in case there's no other one on your trip. Â Plane tickets should be around $400, maybe a bit more. I'll ask my wife, she knows prices month by month If the trip started in March, then we could wait for SAS to do their usual Christmas promotion where you can fly there for $249 plus taxes. Could fly to Milan and drive to Cham, or fly to Paris and take something else. Â drC Quote
bubblebutt Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Two others and I have booked Cosley& Houston guides for Haute Route trip April 20th. Decided we were not experienced enough to go alone and Mark and Kathy seem to really know this tour. Good luck on your trip, see you there. Cosley and Houston website is a goldmine for information on this trip. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 the haute route sounds heavenly!!! Quote
russ Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Two others and I have booked Cosley& Houston guides for Haute Route trip April 20th. Â April 03 we ran into Mark & Kathy twice on the trains. Thanked them for the use of their website - seemed like nice folks. You should have a great experience with them. Quote
kdewit Posted September 20, 2004 Author Posted September 20, 2004 Looks like there is interest. I have emailed a few offline and I am trying to get planning going.
