I know there is a ferry service that goes to different trailheads. However, I've got access to a canoe, and thought that might be funner. Are any of the trailheads accessible via a short canoe? Greg_W Posted August 9, 2004 Share Posted August 9, 2004 SE; Problem with using a canoe, unless you want to carry it down the trail from the highway to the lake (quite a hump), you have to canoe up Diablo Lk (about 1-2 hrs for a fair party) and arrange for a portage from Ross Lake Resort, which costs $25 each way. iain Posted August 9, 2004 Share Posted August 9, 2004 If you take the water taxi it might be cool to get a ride to Desolation TH and do the hike up Desolation to visit the lookout tower where Jack Kerouac used to live. PONCHO&LEFTY Posted August 10, 2004 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Rent a motor boat from the resort. My Dad and I did that and had a great time exploring the lake. Be careful if you don't canoe much, as the waves can get pretty big on Ross in the afternoon -(really, the wind whips up the gorge pretty good).
