Just slammed on my head and back, off a Mt bike jump. My helmet saved my head (I was wearing my Petzl helmet) but my back has little skin left. My back is starting to scab up everywhere and it's making it hard to move around. Anybody have a solution for this besides not crashing? Crash

I was at Supergo yesterday, and I couldn't help the huge selection of body armor they had there for all you freaks who like to chuck your meat off that shit.

If you have a area larger than your palm you need to go see a doctor and have them give clean it and give you some high strength antibiotic cream. I once had a turf burn from soccer than ran all the way on the side of my leg and having it cleaned was by far the most painful thing I've ever experienced, but you have to get it done and get the cream, other wise it will take forever to heal and it most likely will get infected. I have a friend who was literally hours away from dying because of a staff infection due to a turf burn so this isn't something to take lightly.

So far I gave my back a good scrubin and tons of hydrogenproxide cleaning. I don't go to the Docs unless it's the last resort. I was think of a healing spray of some kind. Does neosporain make such a thing?

I'll take your advice if I fell the slightest notion of any infection comming on. For the mean time I'll look for an over the counter cure, or is it off the shelf cure, something like that. Thanks

I have removed large areas of skin before. You know, the kind of road rash that does not bleed, just a constant liquid that tries to scab.

A tub full iodine to soak in would be good to get it clean and give you a chance to scrub dirt and gravel out of the skin.

Keeping it moist with an ointment (not cream as it seem to dry) to keep the scabbing to a minimum and covered with NON STICKING bandaging.

Once it is mostly healed, I would make sure you keep a shirt on this summer to let that new skin/scar tissue heal properly.

I have no medical training, I am just going by some of my past experiences (two nice motorcycle crashes with no leathers). One crash, I did go to the Dr (after trying to fix myself up at home) and this is kinda jist of the way it went.

Good luck and get some proper riding gear. Cheaper than Dr bills and less painful.

I've ridden and raced many forms of bicycles... road, track, mtn bike. So I've had lot's of experience with road/mtn rash (and orthopedic surgeons). The best way I've found for softening up a scab in the mid to late stages of the healing process is to apply neosporin, or any other anitbiotic ointement, liberally to the scab. After about 20 minutes it will soften the scab enough to allow movement. A dressing of gauze (there are several brands on the market that will not stick to oozing wounds) will prevent your clothes from sticking to the softened scab.

Take care.

Lost a lot of skin on my leg glidading. It scabed up, was painful and got infected. Doctor said large wounds as such should be kept very moist, not allowed to scab. Might try soaking in a tub twice a day to prevent scabing.

Thanks for the info. The big one on my back is scabed over and falling off. The other main one on my sholder is a little infected but it is starting to scab. I been putting on lots of neosporian. Seems to be working.
