NBC - Mt. Hood Show

Right now (8:10 PM) A Dateline type show is having a big segment on Mt. Hood and a climbing accident from a few years ago. It might be rerun later too.

I thought it might have Iain or cluck in there, if they were part of the rescue team then.

Nah, that was before my time. I'm new to this whole rescue shizzle.

 

The show was sort of cool to watch. Of course, it was overly sensationalized and melodramatic, but that's what you expect from the media. It even had a nifty computer-generated re-enactment of the fall. Scary.

Interestingly, the guy they were interviewing who was the "experienced leader" was pretty soft-spoken about how his team caused the accident by flossing the folks that died down the hogsback.

Did I miss it or did they never show how the fall started? I realize their are limits to self arrest but did the group that started the whole thing not know how to SA, was there a coat of ice, anybody know the answer. From the look of the pictures, the slope, and that time of year SA shold not have been a problem?
