Adams - Mazama glacier

Anyone done adams, particularly the mazama glacier route ever this time of year? Looking for a nice trip to do before mid-june, could this go?

Sounds good to me as long as you are prepared for the massive hike in and you get up the route before it starts to unfreeze in the morning sunshine. Let us know how it goes, I want to do it too! But when the road opens.

i talked to the wilderness manager a couple weeks ago... long approach. there is still a lot of snow up there.

From the website "Road 8040 is blocked by snow one mile past Wicky Shelter. This is approximately 6 miles from Cold Springs, the summer trailhead for the South Climb. "

Only 6 miles? Well that's not so bad...

Yeah, it's funny that people would let 6 miles stop them. It's 2 hours, 3 if you are slow. That isn't enough to make a climb that much harder.

I'm thinking of climbing the Mazama glacier route too, in early July. What's the usual trailhead when the roads are open?

cold springs/south climb. don't tell the FS that you're doing that route since they'll say you need a permit from the Indian Reservation...

Is there a shorter/qicker route in now in May that has good riding down? What's the funnest route and do you bivy? I'll be heading up next Wed.

The road is now snowed in about 3 miles from cold springs. Any info on the mazama glacier route currently?

I skied Adams with few friends on Canada's Victoria Day (May 22,23) and St. Helen's on 24th.

We did South route, not Mazama glacier. It was cold, hot, sunny, rainy and we had snowstorm on the way back. Everything!

Overall it was good trip. We met few climbers. Most of the others were on skis and snowshoes.
