icegirl Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Courtesy of Dog Snot Diaries What's wrong with the democrats?? Democrat's are a fickle bunch. There is no question that if we all voted alike, we'd get rid of Bush in November. That may not happen though. Unlike the republicans, who don't have an original thought in their head(s), we have to analyze and scrutinize every minor detail about a candidate before we punch our (soon to be uncounted) hanging chad. That's the way we are. We analyze ourselves right into a chimp for a president, and a rotten war. I still wish that I was casting my vote for Edwards in November. While he might be just another politician ( they all are), he's a lot of things that Kerry isn't. For starters, he's not a career politician, he's not a war hero, and he's actually likeable. But regardless, I'm voting for Kerry, because he's a democrat, and that's the only reason I need. When it comes down to it, that's all that matters, and that's what more democrats need to understand. A vote for Kerry is a vote against Bush. A few independents (because we know they are all closet democrats) need to understand that too. I'm still looking forward to Kerry picking a VP! -Jonathan Quote
foraker Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 That sounds like my voting record since I turned 18: "I'm not voting for somebody, I'm voting against the other guy". Quote
catbirdseat Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 I hear so many people mention how such and such a politician is "likeable". Why is that important? None of us have to work around the guy every day. It's not like you are interviewing him to be your coworker. Who gives a shit if he is likeable, if he can get the job done? I'll bet GregW gets the job done, even though he's as prickly as a porcupine, not that I'd necessarily vote for him. Quote

I don't WANT a president that's a "Joe Everyman". I don't want the president to be like me so I can relate to him. I want him to be BETTER than me! I sure as hell can't run the country, so why would I want someone like me doing it? Quote

catbirdseat Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 What do you mean "except online"? GregW only exists online. Quote
assmonkey Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Votes are like dollars: People only want to give them to people they think they can trust. That's what the "likable" issue comes down to. That's why Bush is still hanging in there despite the 9/11 hearings and the Iraqi prisoner debacle. He comes across as the goofy baseball coach for your kid's team that hasn't won a game yet, but still gets you with his unfounded optimism. Kerry is coming across as the asshole in a nice suit who cut in line in front of you at the bank. - a s s m * n k e y Quote
catbirdseat Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Confidence men are always the most likeable sort. Quote
