Ryan Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 How far is the nearest quality ice climbing from Seattle? Quote
sobo Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Define "quality". That'll make a huge difference in the answers you receive. Quote
Ryan Posted February 23, 2004 Author Posted February 23, 2004 (edited) Alright...a variety of routes that range from WI3-5 that are around 100-200 feet long and offer good ice for most of the winter months. Edited February 23, 2004 by Ryan Quote
sobo Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 That would be either Lillowet in BC, or Strobach Mountain in Yakima County. Can't speak much for Lillowet, but Strobach boasts several WI4s and 5s, in the requested pitch length, and are generally around later than most WA ice climbs. Get this book to hep ya out (see attachment). Quote
Ryan Posted February 24, 2004 Author Posted February 24, 2004 I see...nothing too incredibly close then. Hyalite Canyon has spoiled me! Quote
sobo Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Ah yes, I'd say it has. But then, why wouldn't it have? WTF would you be wantin' to come this way for ice when you've got Hyalite, anyway? Planning on relocating to the PNW or something? Quote
Ryan Posted February 24, 2004 Author Posted February 24, 2004 Haha...nope, no relocating for me. My buddy, on the other hand, is heading out there next year. He was wondering about the proximity of ice. Quote
Figger_Eight Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 No kidding. Nothing like Hyalite around here. Quote
Alex Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 For a day trip, use the WA state ice guide. For a 2+ day trip, Lillooet BC has perhaps the most reliable ice in the Pacific Northwest, but is a 5.5 hour drive from Seattle. For a 4+ day trip, Banff is an 11 hour drive on I-90 and a 12-13 hour drive on the TransCanada from Seattle and has much better ice and choice of easy-access routes than Lillooet...can be a bit crowded on weekends though....nice to go midweek..
