Timcb Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 how close can you get to adams this time of year? not too far south of randle or north of trout lake? thanks Quote
AllYouCanEat Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Where do you want to go? Either way you have a decent amount of huffing. There is a snowpark out of randle that gets you to within 7-8 miles of the trailhead. I don't know how close you can get via the south side, but I can't imagine that it is any closer. Good luck. cj001f Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 You be a loooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnng ways from the peak on the south side - according to the Forest Service - rd 80 be closed: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/current-conditions/roads.shtml Quote
Timcb Posted February 18, 2004 Author Posted February 18, 2004 I'd probably be pushing for something on the n. side, like adams glacier or something else of similar difficulty. though if you've got suggestions, I'd love to hear em may just end up on hood instead. Quote
JoshK Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 Which side is randle on? I think the north ridge would be a cool, relatively safe winter climb. 7 or 8 miles ain't *that* bad if you're on skis and go in during a time when the snowmobiles aren't plentiful. Quote
Sabertooth Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 Randle is on the north side. Any of the ridges on that side would be fun in winter. More protected from avys than one of the glacier routes too. The Northwest Ridge gets to about 40 to 45 degrees, if you wanted something steeper. Quote
Timcb Posted February 23, 2004 Author Posted February 23, 2004 Cool- at only 7-8 miles, sounds like the NW ridge would be pretty nice. ended up doing leuthold's couloir (with a bit of dabbling on the upper butt of yocum) on hood instead this weekend, but I'll definitely keep adams in mind. thanks Quote
cluck Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 How were conditions on Leuthold's? Thought about it but thought avi was marginal. Forecast was for "considerable" and were concerned winds earlier in the week might have loaded it up with unstable stuff? Quote
catbirdseat Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 Last time I checked Leuthold's Couloir is on Mt. Hood. Quote
cluck Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 Agreed Catturd. However, the post above by Timcb mentioned he had climbed LC and I was interested in beta. Please excuse me from curiousity and thread drift. Since we are on the subject, climbed LC last Friday and found it to be a nice climb. We lucked out and had almost zero ice fall bombardment that is common on the route and that nailed the hoards that hit it Saturday. Quote
