daylward Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 Haven't been on in a while, hope you guys weren't lonely! My friend Hal and I are flying up to Calgary on March 3. We plan to rent a car and base ourselves out of Canmore for 5 days. We want to finally get up Polar Circus, but we'd also like to get into the Ghost. Although one person told me we could get to the top of the "Big Hill" in a compact and then hoof it the rest of the way, multiple other sources have piled on increasing skepticism that that course of events is possible. I checked out renting an SUV and zow, not cheap - about triple the price of a "full size" car. So my question is, does anyone have any alternative ideas for getting in there? An ideal scenario would be someone who lives in Canmore who has a burly vehicle and who wants to go in there as well... we would pay handsomely for the chance to hook up! Well, we'd pay for gas & food & beers at least; that's pretty handsome, eh? Thanks for any ideas! Dan Quote
Dru Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 I would say you should make a post on the live-the-vision.com bulletin board outlining your situation and offering to pay for carpooling. Or even saying you'd be happy to ride in the back of the pickup with the dogs and packs Quote
tomtom Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 We drove in last Thursday in a 4x4 pickup truck. It didn't look too bad. Quote
daler Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Dan, As long as there has not been new snow you can make it to the top of the big hill in a rental car. From there you are an extra hour to Wicked Wanda or Malignant Mushroom. If you are heading to the north ghost add 2 hours of extra walking. Kristie and I have rented a 4x4 in banff for 80 canadian for a day, Not a bad way to go to sample the ghost. note- Rainbow Serpent is in fat shape and is a must tick as it has not formed well in many years. Give a call if you want more beta! later dale Quote
bchaps Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Last year I saw a vw bus make it to just before the river crossings. It was probably a good mile before The GB&U. I wouldn't recommend it though. Quote
