rollo Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Anyone seen any of BD's new toys this year? Specifically their new Shadow pack and the new tents made with Epic fabric? The weight savings alone is tantalizing, not to mention the cost being quite a bit less than a bibler. I've only seen a couple reviews on the pack and tents, and my birthday's coming up.......Anyone know of a store that has BD's new gear yet? Quote
marylou Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 I saw those new tents a while back...they look really cool but the EPIC makes me nervous. I'd wait for some testing frm the PNW or other wet place before spending my hard earned cash on one. Quote
tomtom Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 One of the guys at Feathered Friends used an Epic tent on a trip this summer. I don't think it rained on him, though. Quote
Rodchester Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 looked at the packs at marmot in Bellvue and was very impressed. Granted, this was just checking them out in the store, trying htem on, and playing with them. Quote
Dustin_B Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 I checked out the new BD tents in Feathered Friends the other day. Since they are basically the same as a Bibler tent with Epic instead of Todd-tex, does that imply that they are rated at 4-season tents? I know since they are epic they won't keep out really hard rain, but will they stand up to strong winds? Quote
Figger_Eight Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 The way the new BD packs carry ice axes is pretty dope. For light alpine packs they look like very promising. They're a touch on the "accessorized" side for my taste, but whatever. We set up the new tent in the shop the other day to play around with it...but half an hour later some dude came in and bought it. Quote
Jedi Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 My climbing partner bought the Firstlight tent for our trip to AK in April. not expecting much rain. Looking forward to trying it out. he says it packs pretty small. He says being able to see through he fabric makes him a little nervous. We will only be climbing when the weather is perfect anyway so no worries:) I'll let you guys know how we liked it if we get on route. Jedi Quote
Mark_Husbands Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 My climbing partner bought the Firstlight tent for our trip to AK in April. Jedi what are you planning to climb? Quote
Jedi Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Hope to poke around on Huntington (weather & conditions permitting). If we have spare time, 11,300. Jedi Quote
scratchandsniff Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 There are 2 companies coming out with expanded range cams. Bigger than the existing camalots. Expect a 3 axle cam from Trango. You have to expect BD to respond with something. Perhaps soon to follow.....a winch to get all that weight up anything!! Quote
