Bronco Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 Looking for suggestions on some kinda homade ski carrier I can build for the bed of a pickup or cheap commercially made alternative. I finally broke down and bought new skis this year and am concerned about unnecesary damage as a result of them getting tossed around and smashed up floating around the bed of my truck. I know several of you drive pickups and ski. Do you just toss them in and not worry about it or what? Quote
AlpineK Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 I just throw mine in the back. I'd be more worried about road spray on your bindings. I've got a canopy so that's not an issue for me. Quote
iain Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 I just throw them in the bed. I have a canopy. At some point I will get my truck bed line-x'd so I stop scratching up the thing, but w/ the canopy on paint chips are not that big a deal. If you are worried about your edges detuning by bumping the truck bed or scissoring each other then you are a better skier than I. Quote
iain Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 one thing to note though is those canopy lock cores are pickable with a ski wicket in about 10 seconds, though they are usually frozen solid when I go skiing. so maybe 20 seconds, after dosing it with wd-40 Quote
glen Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 I usually just throw gear in the back and roll with it. If you are worried about road grime or sliding around, just wrap them in an old tarp, or throw them in an old ski/board bag. Quote
Figger_Eight Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 I just throw mine in the back. If you strap them together (base to base), that'll help keep the bases from getting scratched. Quote
