You'll have around 18 hours of sun above the horizon, probably 20+hrs of usable light, depending on the aspect of the mtn, cloud cover, etc. One thing to keep in mind is that if you aren't using something like a Petzl Arctic where you can keep the battery inside your jacket, the batt life is going to be much reduced due to the cold. Full moon will be April 5th and a new moon (no moonlight) is Apr 19th. Not is our favor . Good point about the batteries not lasting in the cold. Jedi Quote
chris_w Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 On May 1st I started the hike into the Kahiltna Glacier and took a headlamp, but never used it. We were moving during the daytime 8am-6pm and didn't do any moving\climbing at night. If you are planning some long pushes, I would take along at least a tika. I would also suggest getting the lithium-ion batteries. They are more pricey but have an operating temp down to -40 degrees. My CD player lasted 3-4 times longer on them in the cold vs standard batteries. chris Quote

DPS Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Lithium are reportedly not available as AAA. I use my Petzel Micro with litum AAs in winter rather than my Tikka for that reaon. Quote
