gslater Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 Are these a relatively new item, or have I just not noticed them before? My local gear shop now carries them, but I don't recall seeing them out and about on my adventures. Cheaper than the MSR pickets, plus they're curvaceous and are that fun yellow color... Quote
Dustin_B Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 I had one that I bought a year and a half ago or so and then sold it cause it weighs like 6 oz more than a yates. So to answer your question, they are not that new. Too damn heavy if you ask me, and hard to drive into firm snow without some kind of point on one end. Quote
olyclimber Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 I have a few. They're pretty heavy. I won't buy any more for this reason. Quote
gslater Posted November 13, 2003 Author Posted November 13, 2003 Must be a pretty thick layer of paint. Did a little more research: MSR 24": 369g OP 24": 526g MSR 36": 525g OP 36": 774g Pretty significant difference. Quote
Bronco Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 I have 2 @ 24" Yates pickets which I would buy again if I were looking. Feathered friends is where I bought them. I think PMS has even lighter pickets made by CM. Yates 24" picket is around 10oz and looks like this: Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 (edited) Picture of the Wilson Picket By the way 10 oz is 284 gram, so Yates is the lightest 24" picket. Edited November 13, 2003 by catbirdseat Quote

marylou Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 The fact that they are made by prison labor may be a contributing factor to their low cost. Quote
