Bill_Simpkins Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 I just got a new rope in the mail. It is a Edelweiss 60m 9.6 mm rope. As I was coiling it back up, and I noticed a indent in the rope caused by the strapping that the rope came packaged in (inside the plastic, so Edelweiss put this strapping on). I tried to "rub" this indent out, but it is still there. My question is, should I be concerened about the strength of the rope. Has this happened to anyone else? -Bill Quote
Billygoat Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Nah, just cut it at the indent and be sure to burn the ends. It'll be fine. Goat Quote

lummox Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 dude. if its bumming you call edelweiss and ask for an exchange or sumpin. full retail purchases should come with complete product satisfaction. btw i got a edelweiss 10.5. stiffest rope i ever had. Quote
Lambone Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 lummox is right... But if it were mine, I'd probly not worry about it. Edelweiss ropes are bomber. It probly just got compressed by the strap, and will go away after the first time you use it. Call Jim Nelson at Pro Mountain and ask him if he has ever seen this on the Edelweiss ropes he sells. boatskiclimbsail Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 I found that would happen on almost all the new ropes I have bought, but once I got a PMI Cirque with the indents that would not go away, even after flaking it several times and TRing on it once. It bothered me a lot so I sent it into Chuck Weber at PMI. He cut it open and checked it out on the pull tester and such. Turns out it was fine but they had gotten many many calls about the same model/color of rope that year. I got the (slightly shorter) rope back and now it is my sport TR for shorter stuff. The problem was that the dye in that particular model had some issues with the dry treatment and it caused some funky stuff to happen with the way the sheath compressed when it was strapped. They strap the ropes before they dip them for dry treatment. I agree if it bothers you by all means send it back to Edelweiss but if it is the same flat spot from the nylop strapping that I experienced I wouldn't worry about it. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted October 24, 2003 Author Posted October 24, 2003 Thanks for the good advice, I e-mailed Edelweiss, maybe I'll hear back from them...... Quote
