Bug Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Is there any reason I should not buy a uased Ortovox M-1 for $150? Quote
Billygoat Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 only if it does not work. i love mine. it's probably the best model out there. Quote
Lambone Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 If you are talking about devilboys, I can attest that it is in good condition. He takes good care of his stuff. Â I've played around with it and I think its a good tranciver...infact, maybe I should buy it... Quote
cracked Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 No, the Barryvox is the best! Â Remember, you don't need a really spiffy beacon...only your partners do! Â Seriously, probly any beacon is the best as long as you practice with it a bunch. Quote
catbirdseat Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 I used one once and thought that the response time was too slow compared to the F-1, the M-2 or the Tracker. Quote
snoboy Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Here are some details on the difference 'tween m1 and m2. Â I seem to remember the M1 had some problems with condensation in the display. Quote
Bug Posted October 14, 2003 Author Posted October 14, 2003 Right on. Thanks for the input. You will see my tracks. Quote
E-rock Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 If it's cheap, go for it. They are good trancievers. All modern transcievers, once you learn how to use them, do their job well. Quote

The advantage of a digital beacon is you can get the same search time with less practicing. I prefer skiing to practicing.  M1's are nice. I like the emergency transmit button. Quote

Ditto, which is why I bit the bullet and bought the Barryvox (can you say alliteration? ). Quote

I've only played with one a little - I consider it digital because it has the directional arrows, and more importantly, takes less practice than an F1 or Pieps 457. But compared to a Barryvox or M2, no. Quote
