Fejas Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 I think skiing is a lot like climbing in the sense that if your not sketched and fallin some times, you aint pushin your self hard enough. that said skiing makes me hard... HA HA HA... I like to ski the chaired mountains as much as the back country. call me a jibber if you will, but I love the park... the feeling of taking a big hit off a table top, or the glorious rush of spinning a 360 on a huge step up. The trick is to accurately judge your speed so you land in the right area. this is some thing I have trouble with. hence I pay for taking the hits. I do take bigger hit then any of my comrades, but I pay alot more. After the park we tend to head out of bounds. this is were my favorite cornises( fuck i can't spell), and little cliffs are found. fun little stuff, to bust a trick off this stuff and land into the deep powder. but big cliffs, well big for me and big for skiing. the 40-60ft cliffs really turn me on, I think its because I've nocked my self out a time or ten on these fuckers. Call me an idiot, but if your not taking hits and pay for it your not getting better at taking the hits... I push my limit every year and every year it seem like i get better, and more comfortable on the wonderful sea of snow... Discuss? do you guys like taking hits or is it the surfing, making glorious turns that gets you going? Quote
iain Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 you forgot to re-login as extremo_mtn_dude. Anytime I am in the air and my skis are not facing the direction I am going is a time of terror for me still. Quote
Sphinx Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 Huh? You just got high or something? Skiing is about hacking your lungs up, dodging crevasses, and hiking/skinning for 6 hours for a 45 minute run through crust and ice. Duh! Quote
iain Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 One of the biggest thrills I get out of ski mountaineering isn't necessarily just the turns. It's the power you feel as you blast around the mountains with so little energy expended, looking back at a distant summit with satisfaction knowing you were just there 20 minutes ago. It's like a whitewater kayak for mountaineering, while all the walkers are in rafts. Quote

But I was just expressing the other side of the coin. I like both heads and tails... funny its almost like alpine climbing verses goin to the sporto crag Quote

I can get down pretty much anything inbounds, if not gracefully or quickly, but in the BC you get steeps, real hazards (eg crevasses), the snow is rarely perfect, and I just get bored inbounds. I really suck though, so take everything with a grain of salt. PS lifts cost too much...more reasons for bc. Quote
ExtremoMtDude Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 Alas! A worthy topic to bring me back to this fine little site. The hiatus was long, but the last big week in LL was super fantastic, snow was tasty, and the women were even tastier LOL!!!!!!! I think it is best to be well versed in all aspects of glisse. Becoming an all mountain rider is key. When you can carve turns into the park, and then rip it up and jib in front of the kiddies just as well, it doesn't get any better. Almost wintertime baby! ExtremoMtDude Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 shucks fejas! from the sounds of it you are going to have your own HUCK DOLL this season! LOL, rip it up homey! Quote
Fejas Posted September 24, 2003 Author Posted September 24, 2003 Any body that back countries big mountains, is not so suck... So do you bc because of the asent/desent? I ask cuase most of my bc day are spent on pitaly litte shiters slicin thick trees in deep powder, and try to rail fallin trees, and building jumps to through myself off of, or finding little cliffs to drop... I don't do a lot of big mountains, cause i've never had the proper gear, and when you don't have good gear, those long slogs and steep asents are a bitch. that said, i am investing in better gear fo bc this year...
