gapertimmy Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 Many of us here, and hundreds of others around the world love Yosemite. No matter what your pastime is: gaping from your car, or doing a big wall, this place has it all... all set to one of the most beautiful backdrops know to man. Like others, yosemite is very special to me. It had only been about 10 months since i'd last been, but I couldn't wait to get back. For me, Yosemite is a place where I grew up, a place where I became the gaper that I am today. In the brief 3 months I spent wandering her backcountry about 4 years ago, I learned so much about the mountains, about life, about my soul, that it will always be so very magical to me... To sum it up, I saw a quote when i was down there on that first trip, about how one takes so much away from Yosemite, so many memories, so much joy, but because of that, you leave a piece of yourself behind in its place. It was time once again to go visit that "piece" of me that I left in the sierra wilderness a few years ago. Alot has changed since that initial trip to Yosemite, marraige, 2 kids (big and furry, yet still kids), new jobs, new spray infested web sites, new friends, yet the love for the place in the sierra has held constant. The drive down 395 from Bend is a long one, but slowly as the mountains get bigger, my soul jumps, the heart skips a few beats because I get to go back to the place i love so dearly. Once again, old Yosemite served up some great memories, my first climbs in the park, hanging with good friends new and old, and getting to share more magical moments with my alpine buddy becky. early morning at dana meadows thrutching up an easy climb (i really need to climb more) becky hiking out of tuolumne canyon though the rain came down daily, and the skeeters chubbed freely, a good time was had by all. granite, fresh yosemite-scented air, stars and rain, it was good to be back. already planning my next drive down the 395, here's to yosemite quick note: i'm really not sure my poor attempt at a tr can sum up how awesome this place is but to me, yosemite encompases all of that i love about the mountains, and it is always refreshing to go back and remember that initial discovery, the first kiss so to speak of the alpine. so this tr was my attempt to get you all to remember what first got you into the sport you love, weather it be scaling small rocks, big rocks, or slogging up volcanos, just remember that intial excitement, remember why you get out there rain or shine, escape the spray for a second and remember. just thought we could all use a little positive stoke amongst the rope up discussions Quote
lummox Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 i gots fond memories for that place too. and then some memories of mosquitoes in the meadows afternoon rain deluges and scary runouts. but there was always a pint available of producers ice cream from the market. hoppys favorite. Quote
lummox Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 then there are the valley days of way too much coffee from the lodge with the effect of vibrating up climbs in a cold sweat. usta have a key to the shower room too. swimming in the merced in the afternoon and chatting up the touron girls. Quote
