tobytortorelli Posted May 26, 2003 Posted May 26, 2003 (edited) How's the skiing down there?! Wondering if anyone has mileage from Pole Springs TH to a good timberline camp below the Hayden Glacier. Is the Hayden Route up (may come down SE Ridge), better done as a day trip? What shape is the Glacier in presently? THANKS. Edited May 26, 2003 by tobytortorelli Quote
Thrashador Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 (edited) Our group ascended the north ridge and skied the east face from pole ck. friday morning. It was a scorcher and by 9:30 am the goods were nearly cooked. There's still plenty of snow and few holes open save for the baby schrund's at the foot of each face. A crow flies roughly 5.5 miles from pole ck. to the top. It's a solid day or you have lots of timberline snoozing options. Edited May 27, 2003 by Thrashador Quote

gapertimmy Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 indeed it has been getting warm, very early, very quickly. an early start will be your friend on any of the big volcanos right now. one should be able to drive to the TH for sure right now. Â still quite a bit of snow up high, and tam mcarthur (north facing) still has a nice layer on it as well. Â have fun and start early! Â tim Quote
kurthicks Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 Gapertimmy is correct. as of late last week most of the trailheads in the Deschutes forest were open, saw them for myself...Tam Mc is one of the few that was still closed. Hit up Pole Creek and go for it. Quote
