Dru Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 jordop and I checked out the Anderson River Group today. supposed to be just a driving and road-checking scoutiong trip but it was sunny and warm so we bagged Gamuza by the south slopes. 4 hrs round trip easy peasy. everything is still wet EXCEPT Springbok Arete looked dry as there is no place on top to accumulate snow. but i'd say give Ibex another 2-3 weeks or so and Chamois maybe up to a month to dry nice views of various objectives met the rainstorm comin in from the west at Hope along with 100km/h wind gusts, thuinder, lightning etc. glad not to encounter that storm on the mtn top Quote
dberdinka Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 Last fall there was some rumor around here about the removal of the bridge crossing Anderson River. Evidently that's not the case. Is there still a gate/camp/watchman? Can you make any predictions on access through the rest of the year? An observation. I went in there a couple times in fall of '99 or '00 then again in fall of '02. The roads into the area are rapidly being reclaimed by slide alder to the point that something I once drove on was practically a bushwack. Access will only get worse, go soon! Quote
jordop Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 Bridges in No watchman East Main (in progress) and North Main now decomissioned (small h20 bars, prob Soob OK) 610 had bad alder last year, yes, but walking wouldn't be that bad. You can drive right through the alder though if you aren't a truck worshipper. It's fun and most of the branches are small Quote
genepires Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 Does anyone know if the gate is locked to get into the anderson river area now that the watchman is gone? If so, how does one go about getting a key from the logging company? Any phone numbers? thanks Quote
Dru Posted August 20, 2003 Author Posted August 20, 2003 both gates are locked km 14 and km 16 so i've been told. call cattermole timber to ask about key. with current fire situation doubt they are giving it out but worth a try. their number is in alpine select or you can look it up on canada411.com or mytelus.com business finder page. mneagle Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 So has anyone called about getting the key to the gates? How far is the hump if the gates are closed? Quote
