Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 Fuck yeah, kids! Just swung by the Music Millenium and picked up the new ALKALINE TRIO album, Good Mourning and the previously-mentioned-today LESS THAN JAKE release Anthem. 4 tracks into the Alk3 and it is rrrrrocking with a capital R. Further reportage to follow on the status of the LTJ, but all signs point to ROCKAGE. "that said, we've had enough please turn that fucking radio off!" Quote
Peter_Puget Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 And here I am listening to another super album: Blonde on Blonde! Get it! Live it! Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted May 21, 2003 Author Posted May 21, 2003 Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it appears that the boys in LTJ have crafted a fantastically catchy rock and roll album. Is it the Less Than Jake of 'Losing Streak', or of 'Pezcore'? Nope; the songcraft has gone way beyond the hyperspeed straight-ahead ska-core explosions of old. More expressive lyrics, more change-ups in tempo, style, etc., and more rock. Get ready to get sick of hearing (about) Less Than Jake real soon, because 'The Science of Selling Yourself Short' is undoubtedly going to be spilling out of radios everywhere at regular intervals. Make note now that DFA is predicting this as the runaway summer hit, so that when it happens, you can be like "that Dr. Flash Amazing sure knows how to call it. Maybe he could give me some pointers on style, grooming, and etiquette as well!" Y'all heard it here fizzirst! Quote
Off_White Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 And here I am listening to "Dr Doom's Easy Listening: the best of The Wipers according to Mark Twight." Seems like a gimme that he'd put "Pushing the Extreme" as the first cut, but overall his choices are a little weak, trending towards the more modern late generation stuff and almost ignoring cuts from the brilliant "Over the Edge" album, except of "Romeo" which at the moment I'll argue is one of the best tunes ever written. JoshK Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 listening to Bob Dylan's voice is like listening to nails across a chalkboard. Quote
catturdeat Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 When Quinn the Eskimo gets here...he's gonna open up a can of whoop ass on you. Dylan blows dog log, if you ask me, though, FTN. His relevence died before I was born, and he stole his identity from ramblin' jack elliot, if you've seen the movie. Quote
