chucK Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Hey gang!!! I got a leather mountain boot with the heel flapping off. Anybody got any tried, tested and true remedies? (other than paying Dave Page $60). I was thinking of just gooping it up with the ol' leftover barge cement and clamping it back on with an assortment of C-clamps and vice grips. Whatta you think? Better glue, clamping, or strategy suggestions. I'd surely 'preciate it. Thanks Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Barge Cement and lotsa pressure all the way. DFA Barged some flapping toe soles on his Alps and weighted 'em with bricks, and the things have survived plenty of river running, approach shuffling, the Outer Space descent, etc. with nary a relapse. Barge Cement is the ! Quote
chucK Posted April 30, 2003 Author Posted April 30, 2003 Hey DFA, Thanks! And did you follow the barge cement instructions that are in the 5.10 resole kit instructions, i.e. apply cement, let dry for x hours, heat over oven until gooey again and then apply pressure for x hours? Or did you just goop it on and apply pressure? Or something else? Quote
snoboy Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Clean it well first. CLEAN IT WELL FIRST!!! Some kind of solvent is good, and a wirebrush. Quote
freeclimb9 Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Barge cement will work. Clean the area with sandpaper and/or trichloroethane. The 5.10 resole trick mentioned above helps. If you can get it, Ubi glue is reputed to be better. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 MotherchucKer - The Doctor just followed the instructions on the tube, none of that oven shit. If DFA recalls correctly, it was something like apply the BC, keep the surfaces apart and let it dry for 15 or 20 minutes until it's tacky, then smoosh 'em together and dry overnight. Guten luck, chucK. Quote

Guten luck, chucK. This works for finger flappers as well. Except that you use crazy glue instead of barge cement. And you don't have to let it dry first. And you don't have to smoosh them together too heavily (unless you really like that sort of thing.) Quote
