meganerd Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Hey, what's the weather been like up at Washington Pass the last few days? Is it good enough to solo Silver Star on Friday and not get myself killed? Quote
Ade Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 I was up there last night. It rained most of the way during the drive up and rained in the pass until around 2am when it turned to snow. It was snowing reasonably hard above 5000' but very warm. None of the snow by the roadside hardened up significantly over night. Drove back this morning, it was raining pretty heavily all the way out of the hills. I figure it must have put down several inches on elevations above 6000' over night and it going to put down more today. Ade Quote
JoshK Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Silver star is easy, just be wary of any potential avy risks and routfinding and you should be fine. Quote
ski_photomatt Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 NWAC has a remote weather station set up at Washington Pass reporting temperature, precipitation, wind speed, ect.. hourly. NWAC wa pass station Use it to make guesses about weather at higher or lower elevations. Quote
fleblebleb Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 I did the same thing Ade did except we were in Icicle Canyon - so less useful for figuring out what's happening up north, but for what it's worth it rained cats and dogs all night in the Icicle, with temps around 40. This morning we drove over Stevens Pass, the temps were 33 at the top of the pass and it was dumping snow. There is a lot of precip coming down, if the weather gets better for the weekend then the skiing may be awesome but the climbing maybe not as great. Quote
David_Parker Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Friday and Sat look good, Sunday so-so. Quote
dr._jay Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 the snow level was 1500' over stevens pass today and its dumping. felt like freakin january at the end of april--aint washington great! Quote
fleblebleb Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Actually the snow level was lower on the west side. Judging from what we saw this morning it was a good deal higher than 1500' east of the pass. Quote
