Bronco Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 Hey, I learned to climb from looking at a Black Diamond catolog so don't tell me what can't be done by reading! Quote

That road closure thing is not going to happen until July 15th, and that is assuming that the $$ to do the bridge doesn't get spent fighting fires like what happened last year. Quote
JoshK Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 So somebody mentioned the road going up to the 8 mile and stuart/colchuck lake trailheads is gated now? WTF? It wasn't gated before when it was snow covered. How much sense does that make? Quote
mattp Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 It is possible that they don't want some climbers to drive as far as they can and then leave their cars parked in the roadbed or tear up the shoulder when they get stuck or can't travel any further. Quote

Bastards... I love it how we can't be trusted to use sound judgement, but the slednecks can. Quote
Charlie Posted April 11, 2003 Author Posted April 11, 2003 First of all- I wanted to clear something up- as I have been backcountry snowboarding for 12 years, I'm quite capable of evaluating slopes while on the scene. I just wanted advice on how to read the avalance website (OK, I'm a dumbass). Here's how it went: -parked my environment destroying SUV at the snowcreek parking lot -walked up the Icicle, had many Subaru drivers look away as I stick my thumb out. Finally got a short ride from some guys going to Icicle buttress. -Walked down the Icicle some more. -Walked 4 miles from the gate to the trailhead. -Put on snowshoes and walked to Lake. (weather was awesome, was wearing a tanktop- shoulda been there ladies-tanned the guns) -Set up tent on east side of lake -Went to sleep -Woke up and it was raining -Hiked up Asgard, it was snowing -Got soaked -Had no idea where the hell I was going as I was in a white-out -Said "fuck" really loud, several times. -walked back down Asgard -Walked back to trailhead -walked down road -walked down Icicle, no cars, no ride -Got to environment destroying SUV -Changed clothes, turned on some Snoop Dogg -Went to town, ate 3 burgers -Went home Quote
dalius Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 Hardcore man. Sorry to hear you went all that way just to get shut down. Guess it was good exercise though. Quote
