allthumbs Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 When our over-civilized European friends complain about capital punishment, we are reminded of the classic case of Big Harpe, the notorious goblin of the Natchez Trace. The Harpe brothers, big and little, were really atrocious sociopaths, preying mainly upon farm wives and children in the absence of the man of the house. Little Harpe was caught and duly hanged. But Big Harpe, his brother, met a more colorful end. He was tied in a chair and decapitated with a hunting knife in the hands of a bereaved father and husband. This tale appears pretty old fashioned now, but it does have a nice tone to it. -coop Quote
