zhave Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Hey guys im trying to pick a handheld gps unit for deep backcountry hiking and mountaineering. I have looked at a few devices but im looking for other peoples experiences and advice. What device would you get and if you got it, what was your experience with it? Thanks Guys! Quote
JasonG Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I have been using my phone and Gaia for 6 years or so and that does the trick. Way better than any GPS I've ever used, and I am already carrying it! People also really like CalTopo app. Quote
genepires Posted February 16 Posted February 16 the best GPS is the GPS having the most fun. sorry but I couldnt let this one go. Quote
mthorman Posted February 16 Posted February 16 2nd vote for your phone. In my opinion Gaia has a better phone app than Cal Topo but Cal Topo's website features and layers are way better than Gaia. If you only get one I would say Cal Topo. Either way they are way better than my handheld GPS....it now just sits on the shelf collecting dust. Quote
