Jake Robinson Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Is there a route on this thing? I think it's about 2000' tall. impressive in person, but a pain to get in there and probably pretty chossy... About 2000' of relief from lower Bannock Lake to the summit: Quote
JasonG Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Looks like Roger Jung terrain. I have no idea but I'd like to climb Bannock from the other side some day... Quote
lunger Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 i've wondered the same; haven't consulted the B Bible, but it sure looks vegetated. could still be 'fun' to explore some of those buttresses Quote
Hans Travis Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 I just looked in the Beckey guide and it just has the southwest route Quote
JasonG Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Not surprising, lots of choss out there to pioneer! A lifetime of adventure awaits just a few miles away..... 1 Quote
Jake Robinson Posted November 6, 2018 Author Posted November 6, 2018 I wish I had better pics - it is a very impressive feature from the BL area. If it wasn't for the 20 mile hike and bushwhacking required to get there, maybe there would be a route... Here's a springtime view from the north, but it doesn't look like much from this angle: Quote

Blake Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 A friend and I did an elaborate hike last sumer which included visiting those lakes (upper lake has good fly fishing, lower is a bleak little cirque) and we had brought a light rope and some climbing gear. The face has a pretty big geologic transition running diagonally through it. The rock above looked atrocious, and the face is basically a series of ribs and gullies, the later of which were frequently shedding rocks. I think the best hope for a decent climb would be to try one of the far right side ribs, skirting around in from the right. I'd expect vegetated choss. Quote
