  1. Hiked Granite Mountain this weekend (Denny Creek-Exit 47) and in an avvy chute I found 1 trekking pole, goggles, and a pair of prescription glasses (still in the goggles). Looked like someone had a pretty sweet wipeout. Dug around a little just in case the dude was still there. He wasn't, but the pole had a name on it "M. Church". I'd be happy to return all this stuff if anyone knows who that is. Probably lost last year sometime as this chute was just melting out. Drew
  2. Bibler Fitzroy has been the best tent I've owned. The I-Tent is lighter, but it's too cramped with 2 people stuck waiting out a long storm. Fitzroy is plenty big enough and held up at Muir in 60mph+ winds no problem. It was spendy but worth it in my opinion. There's also an optional vestibule. Drew
  3. Robo, 2nd week of July sounds good for us so far. I'm usually out climbing at 32, 38, or L'worth on weekends, so if you're out there maybe we can hook up before Sloan and talk about possible routes. I agree with Mike about the river conditions. Our attempt was over the corkscrew route, but later in the season. Drew
  4. My buddy and I attempted Sloan last July and got whited out before the summit. Found a great bivy site overlooking the canyon though. We turned back but decided to give it another shot this summer. May be up for adding 1 or 2 other climbers to our 2-person team. I might be on Rainier the last week of July, but let's keep in touch. -Drew drewjones1@hotmail.com
  5. I've never done any search and rescue but would like to get involved. This conference look like the first step, but I'm not sure what I'll leave the conference with. Am I certified for something once I go, or what?? Either way, the experience would be great. I see a class for "Bombs and Booby Traps" that looks quite useful. Drew (long-time lurker)
  6. I'm thinking of climbing St. Helens this weekend (Feb. 9th and 10th). Anyone have recent beta? I would appreciate it!! Drew
  7. Michael, Congratulations on what sounded like a successful climb! We're planning Red Mountain on January 12th or 13th. Probably 2 teams of 2. Do you see a need for ice tools, or will a glacier axe do? We are doing this as a warm-up for some bigger winter ascents and I was hoping to try and bivy near or on the summit. What's it like up there? Thanks, Drew
  8. Didn't summit. We underestimated the approach time and were looking at whiteout conditions on the glacier. On the bright side, we did get to whack lots of wet bush. Found a great bivy spot near the north ridge and watched the sky totally clear up. Woke up to frost everywhere, then made a quick descent in light rain. Drew
  9. Thanks for all the input everyone. I'll let you know how it goes. Have a great weekend, Drew
  10. I'm planning on doing Sloan this weekend. Probably Corkscrew route. Anyone been up there recently? Beta would be appreciated. Also wanted to thank Summitseeker again for the heads up on the Shakelton presentation last night. It was awesome! Drew
  11. Hey, I'll be travelling around Peru and Bolivia for about a year starting March 2002. I don't have a climbing partner yet, so if anyone is interested in hooking up or travelling together, let me know. Drew
