  1. I've had a heck of a time with the jet boil in the cold (sub @ 20 degrees). If it wasn't so convenient it wouldn't ever make my kit over much light canister options. The low psi that the reactor can run at makes a pretty good difference for cold weather use (compared to the jet boil that is), but it's just plain heavy/bulky.
  2. X-zoom also weighs half as much. My buddies all use it for night skiing as well.
  3. I used to used the OR Arete glove, which seems pretty similar to what you are describing. They were a pretty decent glove for the price ($75-ish?), but anymore I can't justify OR gloves over Rab's. Rab's fit me better, use eVent, and are significantly cheaper. This is my current cold weather ice glove... Rab Latok Glove I also carry either a belay mitten or light windpro glove as a backup depending on the conditions and objectives. A couple of pairs of light windpro or powerstretch gloves with an overmitt shell has worked for me too, but I prefer my current set up for most applications. Finding a glove system that I really like has been (and still is) a difficult and ongoing process.
  4. Yup...not a lot of spectating going on up there on the comp day(s). Condolences to friends and family.
