  1. You can use that knot as a sled when you get to the top. I'm going to throw away my thermarest. I'll just whip up one of these bad boys each time I bivy!
  2. I'm currently enrolled in a WFR course and during each class, the instructor calls on someone to demonstrate a knot that nobody else knows. We're all climbers. I'm having trouble finding one to present. Any suggestions or resources? Thanks.
  3. Or try http://pdxkayaker.org/
  4. Rattlesnakes and ticks. Two of my favorite little buddies. Great climb partners. Maybe I'll just drink Hamms down at the Brunswick instead.
  5. Thanks. I'll swing by there this summer when I visit the relatives.
  6. I noticed (on mountainproject.com) a climbing area in NE Oregon called the Elgin Wall. I spent some time growing up in Elgin and never heard of it. Anybody have specifics?
  7. Both of the tents you list are more than $400. Unless I'm mistaken, the Trango 3.1 is $650 and Guiding Light w/ vesti is $700+. A bomber 4-season tent will be hard to come by for $400. Here are a couple 3+ season tents. The Nemo Losi 3P lists for $385. Anybody have experience with Nemo tents? The Losi is made of lighter fabric than the 3.1 so it will have it's pros and cons. Sierra Designs make the Alpha 3 which is less than $400. I've never been a fan of SD tent designs, though. Hope this helps.
  8. Any word when this may be fixed? Some days I like spray. Some days I don't have the time before work to sift through it all. Thanks.

I too end up at the bottom of the page quite often. It happens when I hit back or if I choose the next page on a post list. It's really annoying. Any way to make this stop?
  10. In all that I've learned, if someone is suffering from pre-, mild, or even early moderate hypothermia, giving them hot, sweetened fluids is a recommended form of treatment. Then followed by more simple carbs. The body needs calories (sugars) in order to produce heat. I agree the warm drink can help the subject's mental state, too. Then more treatment to warm the body core. Giving warm fluids is not trying to warm up 20 gallons of water with one cup. It's providing calories for metabolism.
  11. You might try contacting Willamette Pass Backcountry patrol. I think they do avi training but not sure if it is open to the public.
  12. Hey, Matt at Mountain Soles has been a big help in the past. They stretch boots but he is quite busy right now.
  13. In my experience, the lighter the boot/shoe, the more rocks you will feel through the sole. I've had some very sore feet from long, rocky treks in lightweight shoes/boots. Just my two cents.
