11/09 climbers sought for Hood or Rainier...
Josh Lewis replied to Icescrewhold's topic in Climbing Partners
I hear the conditions for Hood are best in the spring, is late fall safe for doing Mount Hood? I hear there's plenty of rock fall hazard. -
Is the Road to the Coleman Glacier on Baker Open?
Josh Lewis replied to Josh Lewis's topic in Access Issues
Thanks for the heads up. Mabe next year. -
Is the Road to the Coleman Glacier on Baker Open? Just wondering, I heard a while back that it was closed, but was wondering if perhaps now it might be opened.
-
I knew what was east and west, the problem was as I got almost to the top not only was it getting late, my brothers crampons not working but from where I was looking it did not seem safe. (which I was on the wrong ridge) I indeed took a bike up. Great time, perhaps either next year, or mabe in Mid to late October depending on when the road opens. Is Sahale dangerous during this time of year? As for my above photo, I climbed up a part of that which I went up one of the cracks on the left, even that was a little worry some which in real life was steeper than what the photo appears.

That's where I screwed up! I got my SE and SW mixed up. I was looking up the last 100 feet on the SW Ridge and thinking "No way!" which I was on the wrong ridge! Well mabe next month.

I'm back! Just got home recently. Mark, I can give you your rope tommorow if you want or the next day which I may have to bike to your house. I turned around 100 feet from the summit... I was on the SW Ridge which it looked worse that class 4 to me, although I did find a class 4 looking route as I went down which because it was getting late and if I got hurt, I was very far from the car (20 miles) I decided it was not worth it. I had an awesome trip, and perhaps tommorow a trip report coming. Thanks all for your support. Cheers Josh Lewis.

Sahale is on my spot light for my birthday weekend. I hear the last 40 or so feet are a bit class 4ish or so, how bad is it? Is it something like "be causious" or "don't attempt the last part without rock protection"? Or perhaps is there a way that goes around part of the side to the summit? Just wondering, which I would be roped up for the glacier section which is short, but I do not own any rock protection. If it's safe enough, Sahale is a go! P.S. Don't mention the road washout, I would bike that part. I found an image of near the summit (the photo was not taken by me)

What Kind of Glacier Goggles Should I get?
Josh Lewis replied to Josh Lewis's topic in The Yard Sale
I am very much interested in your offer for the glacier goggles! I am also interested in the crampon offer. Well my crampons don't allow the metal bar thing to go over the back, but I believe they are Mountaineering... Salmon Boots. Backside View Front Side View This offer is very much appreciated! -
Just wondering, my next piece of gear I wanted to get is Glacier Goggles which I am unsure what brand to get... perhaps some work better than others? Not ski goggles. Also perhaps does anyone know where I could buy them or get a good deal on them? Or perhaps someone has a pair there willing to sell?

Done! It was a fun one.

Hidden Lake Peaks which we spent the night at the lookout which it snowed and it was cold, then the next morning scrambled up to the real summit.

For a long time I been wanting to climb Sloan Peak, which my friend recently went there and said conditions are good. For those who do not know me I am 16 years old and I hear that the main "technical part" of Sloan Peak is the glacier crossing which I have a little bit from climbing to the top of Mount Baker. Although I hear there is a small part that is class 4 which I hear can be done unroped, which I could do either roped or not. I would want to do this as a two day trip. I am avalible this Friday through this coming up Sunday (25-27). Let me know if anyone is interested. Hope the weather is good.
-
Ok, that does it! Now I have to do this one!! Perhaps this weekend... I do have three and a half days off after all. Mark, if your willing to do this one again, let me know. Thanks for the update, and great work! This weekend was fun for me too in the North Cascades. Shame the clouds were blocking most of the views.

[TR] Mount Baker - Easton Glacier 8/1/2009
Josh Lewis replied to Josh Lewis's topic in North Cascades
Well, I may be joining the mountaineers soon... -
As for the route, I was talking about the non Nisqually glacier route, which starts at a parking lot near Longmire.
-
Which is why I was less discouraged of the name once I found that out. My brother was intimedated by the name and the look of it from a distance so we settled for Camp Muir again, which was fun. Is this one a scamble? Is the route hard to navigate?
-
I think I'll take your word on it, Camp Hazard sounds fun, but the other one sounds better to me because you get Little Tahoma and such... Thanks. Cheers Josh Lewis.
-
Whats better Camp Sherman, or Camp Hazard? I don't want anything technical... I was planning to go to Camp Sherman via up Ruth Mountain, and then the ridge to the Camp. So now I'm stuck with the thought... which one should I go to this weekend? Thanks Pete for the other info.
-
How is going to Camp Hazard? Is it technical? I hear some people go across the Nisqually, but when looking at maps it seems at though there is a ridge or some sort and I might have heard of a route up that is non technical. I don't mind scambling, but no climbing this weekend. (I'm going with my brother) Here's a Map: http://hikrs.com/host/topo/camphazard.jpg

[TR] Mount Baker - Easton Glacier 8/1/2009
Josh Lewis replied to Josh Lewis's topic in North Cascades
No, please. No more of this. Sounds good... then I'll go based on my own style but perhaps try to correct it more, others were saying it was too long. Thanks for the encouragment. Cheers Josh Lewis. -
[TR] Mount Baker - Easton Glacier 8/1/2009
Josh Lewis replied to Josh Lewis's topic in North Cascades
Some think my trip report is too long... in the future should I keep it shorter? I figured because some really wanted to hear this one I kept it long. Obviously most trip reports in the future won't be this long, but this felt like a long time in person. -
Is this route any good?
-
I thought the access to the Cascade River Road was supposed to be at least partially (if not fully) closed to cyclists. WHAT! That's an outrage! Who said that? I thought this was America! On my Sahale?
-
Thanks! I love biking! And Mountains! So why not have both!
-
Oh well duu!!! I meant to say that part, thanks for reminding me.
