So does anyone want to Climb Mount Rainier the 25th through the 26th of July which is both Saturday and Sunday? Depending on what everyone wants, I could even start out on Friday or earlier. People Coming: -Joshua Lewis I already have my permit, so anyone going who doesn't have one needs to get one, there 30$ which can be bought at the Paridise Ranger Station. Conditions for going: I need everyone to be responsible, that means we have to have atleast 3 people roped up for a team. Also pace your self to Camp Muir, last time the climbers I went with went a bit fast going up to Camp Muir, and were tired out, I went a little slower and felt fine at the camp. I'm not saying go slow, but don't tire your self to Camp Muir, you got all day. What to bring: -Ice Axe -Crampons -Helmet -Good Boots (perferably Mountaineering) -Seat Harness (a.k.a Harness) -Chesss Harness (Could be tubular webbing, but make sure it fits good) -Good Jacket (Should be water proof, and be warm, and hopefully light) -One to Two layers of Pants (Depending on How good they are and how warm you want to be) -Wool Socks (Bring Doubles just in case) -Gloves -Sunscreen) -Glasses or glacier goggles -Perlon (for foot prussiks) -Tubular Webbing -ATC or something similar -T shirt, Long Sleeve shirt -Tent (You want it to be good, winds can be heavy at Camp Muir) -Sleeping Pad (Believe me, it keeps you warmer on snow) -Around a Gallon of water, although it really depends on how much you drink, so bring as much as you think you'll need -Food (Plenty) -Compass -Carribeaners and locking carribeaners Experience you Should have: -Ice Axe Arrest Training -Z Poly -Snow Anchors -Glacier/snow travell -Crampon Use I recommend reading "The Mountaineers Freedom of the Hills 7th Edition" and practicing the knots of glacier travelling and crevasse rescue. As for maps, if you do not have one, let me know and I could get you one. As for radio's, I have 6 if needed, although probably less would be brought. John has both a stove, two pickets, and the rope. You should be in good shape when attempting this, recommended that you train this week to make sure your in top shape. You can run, hike, bike and another methods you could train, but I don't recommend training past Wednseday because it's good to give your musciles time to recover before going.

Josh Lewis replied to Josh Lewis's topic in Climbing Partners
Sorry, we are acually heading out Thursday. But I would like to climb Mount Baker next weekend... are you game? I'll post the trip report on what happend on this trip. I appologize, but I'm invited, not the leader, but was allowed to invite people if they fit into the scehdule, if the weather was good Saturday, this might have worked out. Wish me good luck. Cheers Josh Lewis. -
No.... it was when I duct taped my feet so that I wouldn't get frost bite! It was very cold!

Thanks! It was a fun trip! Now you have to remember, I don;t die so easily.... but I'm not saying I'm invinsible, I know my limits.

Matt Hickey would be the primary leader.... he summited a few weeks back. Dan Straub might be a second rope leader, although he's never summited Rainier. Here's info on them: Matt Hickey - A friend of Christopher Garceau and has climbed Rainier and is experienced, also is bring the rope. Christopher Garceau- Has been in the mountaineers and has been to 11,000 feet before and ice axe arrest training and all that good stuff, but hasn't acually been in a crevasse but knows what to do if he's in one. Dan Straub- Has good glacier experience, and might be willing to lead or atleast for the behind team. He is also very fit and has other climbing experience and is the father of Mark Struab. Mark Straub- Has been in a crevasse for training with the mountainers and is getting into lead climbing, although probably not for this trip. He is around my age, but is experienced! He is also a great friend of mine and is trust worthy, he taught me some rope stuff and is also good at teaching stuff. -

Thanks for wanting to come. There's a problem... the weather might turn soar Saturday Night "SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS. SNOW LEVEL 12000 FEET." - http://www.atmos.washington.edu/data/rainier_report.html That could spell blizzard.... which could endanger the trip and be hazerdous. Is there some way you could get Thusday off? That would be perfect! I could go for starting Friday, but that would decrease our odds of summiting. -
I think is kinda funny is we were talking about Stuart and we swapped to Rainier... here's the original thread http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/894301/Anyone_want_to_Climb_Rainier_t#Post894301 I'm guessing climber's board get's viewed a lot more than the partner one....

Thanks! It's when people judge me for having it that sometimes annoys me, but it was mostly when I was much younger. So far I got 5 people, just one more needed for the two ropes teams!

Parden me for having Autism, parden me for being a human..... parden me .... ok I'm done. Well anyways I couldn't help that part of me.... or are you saying that because I made it public? Awww it's ok, I'm just kidding on this post. I like the second oh jeez... never heard that one before.
-
I try to be honest, but sometimes my point of view can at times be I guess what you might describe a little crazy.... for ex. Calling nwers crazy sometimes... but I guess as you say, because they care, or atleast that's your reason. And I appreciate it!
-
Ok, but I will be very safe, I have other guys with me that will have radio's, maps, and all the other essential gear. If it's too dangerous, we could always turn around, were going with someone experience and has been to the top before.
-
You guys don't know my technical skills, so I don't think it's fair to judge me. I have practice on knots, and I've been to Camp Muir twice, second time I did not feel the altitude. I have the gear, the strength, the knot skills, and am responsible.

Anyone want to climb Rainier this weekend? (July 16- July 17) although depending on weather, it may have to swap to (July 17- July 19) So far I have five people including myself wanting to climb Rainier. I need one more guys so that we have two rope teams of three people. --------------------------------------------------------------- Here's the plan: Thusday- Head up to Camp Muir Friday- Climb up .... that's it The reason I swapped scehdules because if the weather gets crummy Saturday Night, that would not be good. ------------------------------------------------------------ Here's the alternative plan: Friday- Hike up to Camp Muir, rest, sleep. Saturday- Aclemise to the altitude, rest, practice snow anchors Sunday- Get up at Midnight or so and head up for the summit The reason for a three day trip is because day 2 is good preparation for day 3, it's always good to have better odds and be better prepaired. AND BELIEVE ME, I'll be prepaired! ----------------------------------------------------------- So far who's Going: Christopher Garceau Matt Hickey Mark Struab Dan Straub Joshua Lewis -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So we have now 5/6 people required or recommend. Keep in mind, we need to have enough people if we want this to work out. Also be on time when we rope up on Sunday! Four people could work, but Mark was recommending more come to stay on the safe side. Note: Someone who has been up would be great, if you have not but are experienced with glaciers, also welcomed. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL REQUIRED GEAR! If you need a list, let me know. Also make sure your strong enough. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Knoledge Needed: -Ice Axe Arrest Training -Crevasse Rescue Skills -Experience on Snow or Glacier's -How to rope up --------------------------------------------------------------------- Gear Needed: Ice Axe Boots (Perferably Mountaineering Boots) Crampons Helmet 10 essentials, that mean Exrta Cloths, extra food, and a water purifier would be good to bring Harness Chess Harness (or Tubular Webbing Sling) Many clipping carribeaners Snow Picket Perlon (For foot prussiks and such) And a few other things ----------------------------------------------------------------------- As for Group Gear, here's what we got so far listed: Tent Stove Rope (Although if anyone has any climbing rope, it may be lighter than ours so that would be nice to bring, especially if there are two teams. ------------------------------------------------------------------ We hope to assign people to carry gear, and perhaps bring gear. Let me know what group stuff you might contribute so that we know we have enough or need more of something. Also remember communication is another important part of the trip, so I have 6 radio's which I can have each person get one. Also if you need a map, please let me know, I can easily get extra's! As for pace, on the way to Camp Muir I hope not to go too fast because I don;t want to make myself tired, although if the group really wants to go fast, I can. --------------------------------------------------------------------- This trip has already happend.

Thst's because I do have high functioning autism..... no seriously.... but don't worry, it's not that bad. Today Mark taught me how to climb cliffs and all that good stuff, we didn't get into using cams and such, at Mount Erie there's little bolts you can hook your tubular webbing into, and he showed me how to set up anchors, personal anchors, belaying, repell, and all that good stuff... tommorow I might do more.
-
What?! Me a scam? I wouldn't go on a glacier with just me and Mark... we would have atleast 3 people.... my friend was just talking to me about that, and that a 2 person is very difficult and dangerous for when on a glacier.
-
Already one step ahead of you. I already have a 16 year old mentor named Mark Struab. But another one might come in handy because he had experience, but to do climbing, another person would be nice to have, especially on glaciers.

What can you "do" on a internet BB that is so horrendous? Be irresponsible I suppose, ignore people's advice.... But no one on nwhikers ever told me to not ride a bike to the mountains, before camp muir I don't remember anyone (on nwhikers) tell me never to go into the fog on Rainier.... ok, some of it was irresponsible, but I still remember taking there advice. If I do something irresponsible that does'nt mean I'm not listen to one's advice, but I should be responsible though. The leasons have been learned, and I'm more responsible, so, Tazz, I don't think you should be as worried. I mean how am I suppose to go to the higher stuff if I don't take that step? I would bring someone up who is good at mountaineering before I go up Mount Stuart.
-
Thanks! I have become more responsible... but am still am ambishous! Thanks, I also have learned in organizations that you have to watch your every move in front of a mentor, always be on time, always be responsible, wear non cotton even if it's a weak hike (so that the mentor doesn't look down on you) , be strong, and do what he says even if it's not always the best decission... unless it is out right stupid! I've had a mentor take away my ice axe because "he hasn't seen me use one before" and then it got icy and steep and I ended up needing it, but had to make due with some yak tracks which I'm not a big fan of.
-
You caught me! Well a few of those guys got angry just for asking about Stuart... they get very angry at me easy.... cascadeclimbers gave me answers, but nwhikers... they just got angry at me. Well I guess then you gotta do everything your self thse days.... ok, I can do that. So then the final conclusion... I suppose I should wait until I'm 18 to be hiking... Edit: But then again.... I can't live that long without adventure..... I need it! I need mountains!!!!!
-
Thanks for the info and map guys! I'll have to see about the Becky's Guide.... Cheers Josh Lewis.
-
LOL!!!!!! I got banned from summitpost...
-
Thanks! Does anyone have a line over a map to help identify the route?
