Gear mail order and supplier Lists
ASmith replied to ASmith's topic in On-Line/Mail-Order Gear Shops
Found it: http://www.summitpost.org/list/256792/online-gear-shops-us-canada.html -
On one of the websites ( Forums) I saw a great list with phone numbers, websites etc...of all (most) of the mail order and equipment resellers. Anyone know where I can locate it again?

I have normal width feet with my second toe being longer than my first (I forget what you call that). I can wear a 9 1/2 running shoe but usually end up with 10's as the larger size justs feels better, not like a form fitted glove. Based on my experience with Spantics, I would expect that a 43 or 43.5 would work for your 9 foot again, depending on your footbed sock combo. I use a SW liner and a second SW Mountianeering sock with the thicker SOLE Veisters custom moulded footbeds in place of ortotics(sp) which is probably good for a 1/2 size as I have pronated low arch feet. For my 10 foot the 44 seems to be the ticket, and should I have an opportunity to try a 44.5 (no stores in Florida), I anticipate that the 44.5 would fit long but with more toe box room and hence I would be where you are trying to decide up or down. When I tried on the 43 it seemed small but usable with the standard liner and one sock. The 43.5 did give me more toe box width which felt better as did the 44. My believe is the 43.5 or the 44 lenght are both OK for me, however, I liked the feel of the larger 44 toe box. This may impove more with liner compression or better yet, a custom liner made to fit. I am afraid that going to a 44.5 would give me the toe box I like but have too much lenght.

My wife wears an 8.5 shoe for most of everything. So... I bought a size 41 in the mens (red) version which shows to be a ladies size US 9. The box says US size 9. After a 5 mile hike she complained about sore toes. Anyone have any experience with Trango S Evo sizing and / or the female version (blue) vs the mens (red) version? Looks like we have a new pare of mens (red) 41's for sale!

I am having the same issue and would like to see the what size others are using compared to their running show size in US sizing. I measure a 9 1/2 on the scale and with a dress shoe & thin sock. I wear a size 10 running shoe in just about everything using a standard running sock. I started with a size 43 Spantik, went to a 43.5 and now have a 44 Spantik. I would even like to try a 44.5. With each size up things feel better. I have not gotten to the point that it is too big. When using a SW liner and SW Mountaineering sock especially with a Sole Veisters footbed it seems snug with still no heal lift. With the 44 lenght seem ok too, I question the snuggness around the forefoot for circulation. Play with putting in and taking out your footbed as the footbed accounts for about one size La Sportiva told me. I have a friend that wears a 9 who used a 43 on Denali and based upon what you said I would think a 43 or 43.5 depending on sock and footbed combo would be about right. Keep in mind that swelling does not make a foot longer but wider in diameter and you want a boot with room.

Do your homework as there is a big difference in how they work, ease of use, and how you can use them depending on what you need them to do. There are basic funnel and then there are completly sealed and leak proof units plumbed outside of clothing or suits. http://web.mac.com/ljjames/homepage/She-P.html This website is to a female diver in Seattle who is now making what is considered the best unit out there. With a pee valve also installed in a dry suit it can be used underwater without suit removal and in the mountains I would think without removing a harness or clothing. Maybe this will help. As a deep technical mixed gas wreck and cave diver these are used by ladies all of the time. Here is a whole thread on The Deco Stop on these as they are used a lot in the Technical Diving and Cave Diving world. http://thedecostop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29095 If this link doesn;t workgo TheDecoStop.com and go to the exposure protection forum and look for the "Female Overboard Discharge Review". A ton of info.

I too looked long and hard and in the end bought both the BD and the Petzl. So... I have both of these and find that the BD is much brighter, has many more useable levels and overall and more versatile. The plus for me is the rechargable feature which works great, saves on the enviroment, recharges with a solio. No more batteries! I use mine not only for climbing but desert MB riding in Red Rock, beach running in FL., and morning bike rides to my office. Works great for everything. BTW... you can get a model with an extended cable to keep the battery in a jacket for cold or high use too.

ASmith replied to ASmith's topic in The Yard Sale
43.5's are still available. -
Absolutly no smart ass comments intended or implied. I am a serious buyer with a need for several complete sets of gear. Financial consideration is not an issue. I have cash and am looking to purchase new or like new climbing and expediation gear from anyone whom I can help in some way that may need to sell or is at the very least motivated to sell otherwise it is surley simplier to simply buy new with all of the avantages of doing so.

Seems to me that this is unlawfull endangerment. I would call the paper, get the public involved and then call the people elected sheriff and let him know how you all feel. I have to wonder what would happen is someone (especially a child) happen to freeze to death or have an exposure event as a result of being stranded in the snow?

Vertical or horizontal front points for water ice?
ASmith replied to northvanclimber's topic in The Gear Critic
The Cyborgs appear to be very similar to the G14. Would anyone care to compare and contrast the two designs? Wouldn't be a better comparision to compare the Cyborgs to the Grival Rambo 4 since they both are each companies waterice crampons? Your thoughts on the Rambo. I too are looking for a new set and are considering the Sabertooth, G12 or G14. Anyone used them for a comparison? -
I usually wear a 10 in all running shoes and with a SW liner and SW mountaineering sock I am wondering what the best size would be on the Spantik? 43, 43.5 or 44. Called La Sportiva who you would think would have an educated guess and the lady I spoke to didn't seem to have a clue. Sent a foot outline to AMH but no answre yet. Anyone using La Sportiva Boots that wears a 10 running shoe.... what size of boots are you using?

For me the 20% books and maps plus the library, the ski huts and use of the lodges far makes up for the little cost. I save that in books alone.
