  1. By this lame and ill-timed attempt at satire.

Just remember where you import your *real* comedians from. :P

"…The Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white Capri pants."

    — Greg Gutfeld, Fox News moderator

Seems to have struck a nerve, no? Care to explain why?

The reason that I'm asking is that it's hard for me to understand why Canadians who are even vaguely familiar with their history (Ypres, Juno, etc [these should ring a bell or two]) would be so easy to provoke with taunts of this kind.

I love Canada, and Canadians are great - but I have to confess that I can rarely resist the temptation to engage in a bit of "provoke the Canadian" from time to time, just because it's so damned easy. My personal favorite is giving a quizzical glance when a couple that I run into somewhere outside of that fair country makes it a point to announce that that they're Canadian, at which point I follow the bemused look with the following line - "Canadian?! *Really*?! You just seemed so ...American."

Anyone who doubts the persistence of the martial spirit amongst Canadians need only give that routine a try when the opportunity avails itself and they'll quickly be disabused of any such notion!

So why do Americans stitch Canadian flags to their backpacks when traveling?

Making fun of one of the few military forces backing the US's ill planned 'War on Terror' on the front that actually had a chance of locating Bin Laden is ignorant and idiotic.

I would have preferred a statement that the show is hosted by morons of the highest degree over asking for an apology. Or at least a good version of "Aristrocrats" in response like Gilbert Gottfried at the Hefner roast.

  2. Even kids is a marginal reason to get married. There are many valid reasons to get married or not. If you're religious for example. Some people have psychological hang ups that are irrationally cured or made worse by marriage. There's no recipe and it's a personal decision that hopefully adds to a long happy life.

  3. Being a friend on facebook only means they can view your profile. Is that so bad?

    Didn't know that.

Is your profile private? I recommend setting it to private so that only your friends can view it. Otherwise anybody that comes across it can see it.
  4. Guitar wankery list just for Kevbone:

    GW: 50 Greatest Guitar Solos

This one's actually really interesting with stories behind the recording of the solos like the emotions involved and spontaneous vs. written and rehearsed. Lots of recording technique and gear tips.

Choada: I like the Vintage 30-JCM800 combination. What sound are you going for? I'm an all tube fan because they are simple and sound great.

  5. My worst nightmare, hard poorly protected slab climbing. David is clearly a master of the trad game, one has to wonder if there will be some friction over the grade, downgrading it 3 numbers is a hell of a downgrade.

And why were talking about it, any ideas on what are the hardest slab routes in NA? And no Dreamer won't be on that list. I was thinking of something in Yosemite, maybe a Caldwell route? I heard something about a slab that he repeated on Half Dome that he graded .14. Any thoughts?

[nitpick]I would say he's a master of the headpoint game more so than the trad game. He did top rope it a few times and work out the gear first. I'm sure he can onsite damn hard as well but his big accomplishments so far seem to be headpoints.[/nitpick]

Either way that's a hell of a way to get over an injury.

  6. Icelantic makes a short fat ski that many tour on but that would be expensive.

There is (was?) a company that made skis with permanent skins as an alternative to snow shoes. I haven't seen them in years though. Might find them used somewhere.

  7. I enjoyed that Joe Pass clip. Way more interesting than Vai or Satriani.

Wasn't a cut off wine bottle neck the first slide?

My GF teaches grade 6 and the boys are really into guitar. She has one in the class that they pick up and play whenever there's a break. I'm bringing my rig in on their last day of class for them to play around on. Should be fun.

I'd better get to practicing my hot licks. I wonder if I can learn the One intro solo by then. Apparently they're really into that song.

  8. Rhinos mark the corners of their territories with piles of dung the size of house foundations. The dung beetles love these piles for several reasons, not the least of which is that, while they know how to take off and fly, they do not know how to land other than to just crash into something at full speed. Nice, soft, broad dung fields keep their mortality rate down.
    I didn't know Bug was a boulderer. :o
