  1. Hey all, Just a quick question about your thoughts on the best place to camp with a VW bus at Squamish. I've been there twice before, but was denied climbing by the rain. It'll be my first multi-day trip there. Thanks in advance! Tom Patterson Seattle
  2. 1. Yes 2. Yes 3. and Yes That was my first pack (originally, my Dad's). It was brutal. On top of that, I carried canned goods in it for my first few trips. I think I have grooves in my shoulders, still.
  3. I know of a graphic designer (Adam) in Ballard who does really great work. Check out his site for some examples: http://atomicdl.com/ No kickback for me in putting forward his name, BTW. Good luck!
  4. "Oppressively wet spring" is right! Thanks for the response, Sol.
  5. Not having had any experience in Leavenworth in the winter, is the rock in Icicle Canyon in good shape for climbing right now (4/16/11)? Thanks in advance! Tom Patterson Seattle
  6. We did all the Morning Glory Wall routes, Karate Crack, Sunshine Dihedral, a bunch of stuff off of Northern Point, everything on Rope de Dope, and a bunch of other stuff as well. Beautiful few days!
  7. Just got back from four stellar days at Smith, and we stayed in the Climber's Bivouac. Thanks, all, for your input. The Bivouac site was great, met lots of climbers from all over the place--newbies and hardcore. Super positive atmosphere, even if the walk to the tent was farther than it would be at skull.
  8. I'm thinkin' it's Climber's Bivouac for us. If any of you are gonna be out that way, be sure and say hey! Thanks for your input, y'all!
  9. "Don't sleep close to the urinal...don't sleep close to the urinal...don't sleep close to the urinal..." Got it! Thanks, man. That's a good "heads up."
  10. Thanks cd and hemp. I'm kinda bringin' a mini social scene with me, and meeting others there, so that's not a problem. But are y'all saying that I'm a lot less likely to be around other climbers in the "climber's bivouac" than at Skull Hollow? I mean, is the climber's bivouac that in name only? Thanks again for all the input.
  11. Sprocket, you're makin' me lean...
  12. Well...I did get my tent at REI years ago, my wife does work there, and I am 49...but still--I'm suddenly finding myself in the middle of an existential camping crisis. Who knew such controversy existed? I'm reading with baited breath for the next installment touting the virtues of one camp over the other. Thanks!
  13. Thanks for the heads up, Cat. I think I'll pass on the all night parties.
  14. Thanks, Fender. Yeah, I'm talking about the Climber's Bivouac. I don't mind shelling out a few bucks for parking and crashing, given its proximity to the rock.
  15. Hey all, I'm heading down to Smith for several days of climbing during the first week of June. Any of you regulars know if I'll be fighting for a spot, or a parking space, in the walk-in camp, if I'm getting there on a Monday? Also, feel free to throw in any other camping beta if you feel compelled to. Thanks!
  16. Thanks, DPS. I'll take that as a green light! TP
  17. Hey all, As a relative newcomer to Seattle, can you tell me whether anyone can use the UW climbing rock, or whether it's restricted to students, faculty, etc.? Thanks in advance for the feedback, Tom Patterson
  18. Sounds like fun. I've been sick as a dawg for the last five days, but hoping I can roll myself off the couch and make it down tonight, being a former San Diego (Poway) climber. If I make it, I'll introduce myself to you, Off-White. Otherwise, have fun!
  19. Cool...thanks for the info. BTW, what's a pub club?
  20. Hey folks...I've been in town about two years now, and am having a hard time figuring out how to get connected with a climbing community. Came here from N. Cal. - Donner Summit was my local playground. I'm 48, pretty low key, and love to climb with people who don't take themselves too seriously. I'm not exactly sure how this whole message board works, but I can often break away at 4PM after work, or on some Fridays (all day) and Saturdays (same). I live in Lake Forest Park (between Kenmore and Shoreline). I'd be into heading to Exit 32 or 38 for an evening or day of climbing (5.10/11). Thanks! And, uh...let me know if I'm not doing this thing right!
