  1. Simply outstanding google earth file for the Canadian Rockies and for BC http://www3.telus.net/mtnclimb/pers/climbing/climbing.html
  2. hi all I just checked in with Andy Oetter - the ministry person in charge of collecting public input. The tenure is non-exclusive so that would mean that all recreational user groups would not be restricted from using the tenured area in question. However, they would have the possibility of sharing it with heliskiers. Andy is very open to input btw.
  3. Coast Range Heliskiing is applying for tenure to the North and South of Duffey lake, including Steep Ck, the Hurley Silver Mine, Common Johnny Creek, Elliot and Haylmore Cks - basically all the quick access spot off the road towards Lillooet. Here's the map with the added tenure requested - http://www2.lwbc.bc.ca/ApplicationPo...ostID=8313#top - There is an opportunity to comment. Send comments to Andy Oetter Adventure Tourism Manager 510-175 2nd ave Kamloops, BC V2C 5W1 250 371-3932 andy.oetter@gov.bc.ca The case file is 3411014. Comments must be received by November 22, 2007

  6. From http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87088 emailed first person account -----Original Message----- From: Name Omitted Subject: Crevasse fall Mt. Baker Hey there, Had an "exciting" time yesterday... I fell into a crevasse on Mt. Baker yesterday about 4:30am. I was leading our group and as I tried to jump over the crevasse, my feet punched through the platform I was standing on and I fell about 45 feet down upside down into the crevasse, hitting my head on the wall of the crevasse on the way down. My chest harness brought me upright and I thankfully was caught by my all women rope team. The next person on the rope got dragged about 15 ft. from the edge of the crevasse. Luckily the team that just jumped the crevasse in front of me was a training group for Bellingham Mountain Rescue. They helped pull me up with a rope on each side of the crevasse, which was helpful because the fall had deeply entrenched the climbing rope into the snow. It took about 45 minutes to get me out. I was very calm the entire time and even had a radio to communicate with the team up above. Exciting, but I don't feel I need to do that again.... The attachment is the photo I took from down in the crevasse. You can see the entrenched rope and the two rectangles to the left where my feet punched through. I don't think the photo does justice to how far down I was or to the overhanging snow at the lip, however. I tried to take a photo looking down, but my camera wouldn't focus on "infinity and beyond" I guess.....

  8. Trip: Dickson Pk - S face climb with planned E face ski - Date: 5/27/2007 Trip Report: http://www.leelau.net/2007/dickson0705/ - click here for more Pat, Danielle and I had planned to head up to the southern Chilcotins and ski a peak about which Pat has obsessed - Dickson. To sum it up, the forecast initially looked good but the weather gods conspired against use and our plans to ski off Dickson Peak's east face were dashed by rapidly deteriorating weather. Regardless of this non-summit, we managed to check out a great area, and we scouted some other alarmingly large peaks and managed to see some new terrain. Pats pictures are here - Gear Notes: skis, crampons, ice screws, rope, axe
  9. I've now heard Hurley will be plowed early June timeframe. Snow level is 1300m or so on N slopes still in the chilcotin and bendor range

  12. The 1:50,000 maps are notoriously inaccurate. The TRIM data from the BC Basemaps are much more up-to-date/ A website I use to generate BIG maps of areas of interest is trail.brijn.nu. It extracts BC Basemap data and overlays it with GPS UTM grids in NAD83 format. Only problem - no placenames or placenames are very small Some examples of maps I've created are here. I marked up all the placenames myself with Photoshop Elements: http://www.leelau.net/ns.htm
