    5.15

Climbing is definitely not a spectator sport, if they'd said it was 5.14d would you have been able to tell the difference?

Now those videos of the one guy free-base-wingnut-soloing the Eiger, that was cool

  1. According to your earlier statement we've known about this for decades. Kyoto was mid-90s.. we must have known something then? Notice these problems never get "solved", hell who wants to get a real job. Being against global warming is like being against beating baby seals. It's easy, it makes you look good and you don't have to do anything.

So I take it you won't be driving up to Lillooet this winter? Oh wait, driving is 1.1% of emissions so that's fine. You won't be flying anywhere? oh, flying is 0.2% of emissions so it's not a big deal. You'll downsize your house & take the bus to work?

No it's easier to talk about windmills and electric cars 20 years down the road.

  2. Would anyone give a shit about Al Gore if he didn't have this bandwagon to jump on?

I'm just glad it's all the fault of goverment and oil companies and that we have nothing to do with it

  3. More awesomeness from the Guardian:

    Your friends

This Copenhagen treaty is a very bad deal & I'm glad our government has good sense in this regard.

He mentions Kyoto & how Canada exceeded it's targets..uhh...so did every freaking country who signed on. But when you call bullshit on it and say it's not worth the tons of paper it's printed on people call you a climate destroyer...it's called realistic.

I would be very wary of anything the Europeans are pushing in this regard. They're the last people I would trust as doing this for the good of mankind.

  4.

Fuckin newbies! The swagger in their walk could power a small city!

Who you calling newb punk? According to that little thing on the sidebar I've been registered here longer than you!

  5. I guess what I'm saying is why are you guys getting so worked up about something you don't actually give a shit about?

hands up anyone driving from Washington to BC/AB to go ice climbing this year

hands up all those who drive to work

hands up all those who like to fly to exotic foreign destinations

Do you like eating fresh fruit in January? guess what, they don't grow it down the street.

  6. I find it interesting how the environmental movement has borrowed a play from Bush & Co..

i.e. there is no time to think! ALARM! The terrorists/global warming is coming!! aaahhhhh just give us the power to do what we want... don't ask questions!!

For most people environmentalism is great as long as somebody else does it. I walk to work everyday...my favourite is walking past the house of the lady who goes to work at the same time of me & who I catch up to 2 blocks later as she parks at work!

  7. I've heard of that crag but haven't been there yet...all kinds of interesting looking limestone around the Fraser too. Just done a few things at Esler bluff which is a 1/2 hour drive down like a 5k logging road, shitty! Not bad sport climbs though. Apparently there is some local ice & Marble's only about 2 1/2 hours away so that's not bad.

Wrestling Day is sort of like the running of the bulls. We all put our best overalls on & they release a herd of mad, testosterone injected cattle onto the downtown streets. Then we try to wrestle 'em down.. the winner is crowned that year's "Stampede King" and is given the keys to the grand prize 1986 rusted out F150.

  8. In Quesnel, BC, it is still a legal requirement to have an out door outhouse, at least 20 feet (6 metres) from your house, but not more than 100 feet (30 metres). It has to be "fly tight", too.

Errr..no... I live an hour away from there & that aint't the case...

however my town does have it's own unique civic holiday called "Wrestling day" I shit you not! (January 2nd)

  9. It's a mark of how sucky Canadian politics is that a guy who has three times failed to win a majority is seen as some sort of success.

I guess from a glass half full perspective he could say that he hasn't lost 3 times? In some strange way that seems like a very Canadian definition of success to me :(

Not sure what the coldest CFL game is although probably every game in November on is freezing cold...except strangely the BC lions who play in a dome in what is Canada's warmest climate...weird

  10. Apparently they are going to start serving it in the House of Commons cafeteria:

    Yummy!

The Grey Cup (Canadian Super Bowl) :rocken: is coming up too

Go ARGONAUTS(?)!!! Is Rocket Ismail still playing?

So sorry, actually the Argos were the worst team in the league this year & I think Rocket Ismail went to the Raiders... maybe if the Argos had hung onto Ricky Williams they could have had a chance but the pay doesn't really compare vs. the NFL. It's gonna be Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. the Montreal Alouettes (some kind of bird I believe).

...too bad the Seahawks had a lost year, they're gonna end up taking Hasselbeck off the field in a bodybag one of these days

  11. Stevie Haston is a monster... I feel kind of sad for these people though that they spend so much time & sacrifice training for some sport route. I'd be curious to find what motivates them.. I've tried sport climbing & after the 10th gang bang on some route I just don't see what the attraction is.

  12. So as I flip through the paper on my way to the comics I always see a bunch of articles about this climate change conference deal. I thought I would get the learned experts of CC.com to give me the executive summary of the issues so I can go back to ignoring it.

My understanding is that is it supremely-effing-omfg!-important that we make up some BS target about how we're going to cut our emissions even though nobody is actually going to do anything like that and doesn't want to. Didn't we already sign & ignore that Kyoto treay like 15 years ago? Isn't this shit put to bed yet??

Also how come they only talk about partial reductions? The UN should mandate that all emissions cease tomorrow...and we end world poverty to boot... now that is the kind of far-sighted, dynamic innovative action we need. Where is Bono & Bob Geldof on this? How come we haven't heard their important contributions yet?
