FOUND, STUFF - Rainier, 8400' on Ptarmigan Ridge

Semantics. I didn't say the "men" skied the whole face. But to be fair... Ahem... cough, cough... Here's a shot of the face that a lone badass hardman skied two days after the photo was taken. Some other badass hardmen skiers waited and watched closer to the bottom. And I think there was a badass hardwoman in there climbing too... but not skiing. There. -
In a company-wide email a couple days ago... "Anyone have the company pickup?" That was the extent of the email. Our parking lot is verrrry small.

Yes - a few fido posts seemed to have disappeared overnight. Probably for the better. Oops... just read down farther in spray. Guess they didn't disappear - just moved to their rightful place.

oooo, oooo, oooo... need the brain trust?

TLG - for a minute I thought you were going to ask me for a picture! -
Personally, I think people put waaaay too much faith in their ice ax to start with. In my opinion, without scientific study, there seems to be a fairly narrow range of snow conditions where an ax will actually help you arrest a team. If it truly is hard hard snow or ice, and you're trying to arrest an unexpected TEAM fall, you're going to be damn lucky to do it. (Hats off the fellow on Rainier that DID do it and month back or so!) I'm talking TEAM fall... not individual. There is just such a fine line between "so soft I could arrest with my elbows" and "so hard that I won't even dig in" - that's why I always hear the mantra my old sage instructor drummed into my head: "Don't fall." Yeah... it sounds stupid, and it sounded stupid at the time, but with more and more experience, it made more sense. Don't rely on your equipment to save your ass... get your technique down, get your head in the right place, and climb. And good point Selkirk about the keeper strap on the pole. If you need to switch to that ax, launch that pole so you're not flogging yourself with it all the way down. Hard to do when it's attached to you. -kurt

So - was it an ice pick or an ice ax?

Or this one... "People make suggestions on what to say all the time. I'll give you an example; I don't read what's handed to me. People say, 'Here, here's your speech, or here's an idea for a speech.' They're changed. Trust me." I mean c'mon... that's really subtle. To write a speech poking fun at yourself... the speech writer. Subtle man... subtle.

I can only dream. But no... it is not I. I do not have the fine mental capacity to draft words as eloquently as... "Because the—all which is on the table begins to address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculate, for example, is on the table; whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers, affecting those—changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be—or closer delivered to what has been promised. Does that make any sense to you? It's kind of muddled. Look, there's a series of things that cause the—like, for example, benefits are calculated based upon the increase of wages, as opposed to the increase of prices. Some have suggested that we calculate—the benefits will rise based upon inflation, as opposed to wage increases. There is a reform that would help solve the red if that were put into effect. In other words, how fast benefits grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if those—if that growth is affected, it will help on the red." But I can dream, can't I?
