  1. I've had the a80 for a year and think it's a fantastic camera. I thought the flip screen was a gimmick when I got it but now I use it for every shot. Most of the stuff from 2004 here is from the a80: gallery.ulti.org some specific galleries: http://gallery.ulti.org/2004_tantalus http://gallery.ulti.org/2004_starr-wall http://gallery.ulti.org/2004_red-rocks http://gallery.ulti.org/2004_tetrahedron-bachelor_glowballs http://gallery.ulti.org/2004_cypress I've had the camera below -20 C and it's been fine. The battery life cannot be understated, it can take ~600 shots with the screen on before needing new batteries and since it takes AAs they can move into my GPS if I need the extra juice. If you have any specific questions, let me know. --reid
  2. Anyone know what time it starts up on Friday?
  3. I recently picked up an A80 and have no complaints. The biggest problem is with the focus being off sometimes but that can be solved by using the manual controls. The custom settings C1/C2 are great for saving common camera configs (c1 for wide angle snow shots and c2 for up close action shots for instance). I have pics online from this camera: http://gallery.ulti.org/2004_garibaldi-ne-face http://gallery.ulti.org/2004_starr-wall http://gallery.ulti.org/2004_mamquam --reid
  4. I've had no problems with my Grivel 2Fs on garmont tele boots. They fit on snugly, actually better than any other boot I've tried the crampons on.
  5. So does this mean visiting the village 3 times in a day or does it mean just going from the whirlwind/fissile col to the east col on blackcomb twice each? I think this is an interesting style point: does using the lifts detract from being able to say you did it x times in one day? Usually to say you did something 'in a day' means car to car so really you should get to the village 3 times (start, finish, and once in between) if you're doing it twice.
  6. We were up this weekend and we took the left at the cat lake turnoff and went up the brohm ridge road. No gates were encountered. The road is certainly in rough shape but cars had been up more than 75% of the way to the connector where the two roads join. Since we were in a Civic we parked down at 2km and just walked (which is certainly reasonable as it only adds ~6-7km to the trip). --reid
  7. Headed up the NE Face of Garibaldi yesterday via Brohm Ridge. Snow level starts at 1150m by that approach. The glacier above was fantastic and the ski out was great. The snow was rapidly softening below ~1800m in the afternoon. --reid
  8. Ced, what was the approach along Brohm Ridge like? I'm wondering where the snow starts as I'd like to head up early next week and want to know if I'll ski up or just hike it in. Thanks! --reid
