  1. I'm interested in the 5.9 A3 route in the back of the Sky Valley Rock guide, which doesn't have much info other than the topo. It would seem to me that a bivy would be required if there's that much moderate aid. I'd probably opt for hammocks if there aren't any good bivy ledges.
  2. Looking for a lighter/easier-to-set-up double ledge than I currently have. Is yours for sale? My father in law is an upholsterer, so it's ok if the fabric is worn out.
  3. Does anyone have any good beta on the Dolomite Tower on Mt. Baring? The topo doesn't list a good bivy ledge, so I'm wondering if a ledge or hammocks are required. Is the top of pitch 6 a possible bivy ledge? Thanks.
  4. Boots are sold. I'm trying to get enough to buy a new or used ledge, so if you have a good ledge that you're willing to trade, e-mail me.
  5. North Face Down Suit in excellent condition. Used once on Cho Oyu (Only wore it for a few hours on summit day) Size medium. I'm 5'11 - 175ish and it fits well with a little room to spare. $350 One Sport boots size 10.5-11. Boots and soles look brand new. Liners are mint - never used. I used intuition liners in them in the Himalaya (custom liners aren't included though.) Purple style, just like the new ones, just not as fancy looking. Internally they are damn near the same, regardless of what the shops tell you. $175 (A new pair will cost you over $700.) E-mail if interested. [/Email] brook@ogawa-mtnadv.com
  6. go to costco. They're cheaper and you don't have to screw with rebates.
  7. I'm organizing a community clean up of the childrens climbing wall at the Marysville Youth Peace Park on 67th and Grove, near the Cedarcrest Golf Course, from 8:30-3:00. The climbing wall is need of repair; the holds are greasy and need retightening, and the wall is riddled with grafiti on the backside. There's several community sponsors that are helping out too. Redbull will be there, as will members of Everett Mountain Rescue, and Ogawa Mountain Adventures. Many businesses have donated gifts or supplies to the even as well. Safeway, Papa Murphys, Sports Etc., Cascade Crags, and others. We’re having a big BBQ when it’s over for those who help out! We’ve taken care of everything, just come ready to help. Might want to bring gloves for yourself. There's a fun bouldering comp after we finish! Great Door Prizes for adults and kids! Hope to see you tomorrow… Directions: From I-5, take exit 200 (88th St Exit). Go East on 88th. (That would be a right turn if your driving Northbound on I-5, and Left if coming southbound on I-5.) Stay on this road, driving past a cemetery(the road turns into Cemetery Rd) Turn Right on 67th St NE. Just past the Cedar Crest Golf Course You’ll see the Peace Park on the Right (Northwest corner of intersection) Turn Right on Grove St, and look for parking.
  8. Two camera bodies: Ricoh KR-6, near mint condition. Takes excellent photos, seriously. Automatic function for those who are new to SLR photography. Pentax MX body, in good shape. Very small and light. Used to be my High Altitude SLR because it's all manual. Used mainly for B/W. Three Lens: 28mm Makinon. Mint Condition. 135mm Sears (made by Pentax) Also mint. 35-105mm Tokina, Excellent condition. (one small scratch on lens, but it is outside of the focal plane and has never posed a problem.) Two Filters: 52mm Polarizer (fits the 135mm lens) 55mm UV (fits the 28 and 35-105 lens) Two Cases: One large case, room for extra lenses and film. One compact Neoprene case. Great for the field. I've taken many high quality shots with this complete setup. I mostly shot slide film and BW film, however, I've moved over to digital format. $200 OBO for all. Must sell ASAP, because I'm leaving town. Call me if interested. 425-299-7168
  9. I have an Aiguille Alpine Double Portaledge with Expedition fly for sale or trade. It's only seen a few nights on various walls and is in excellent condition. It's extremely beefy and very easy to set up. It has reinforced fabric on all sides so you don't need to worry about what side faces the wall. You don't see them in the states very often but it is one of the tougher ledges I've come across. I need to fund the purchace of a pair of Everest or Olympus Mons boots. I'm willing to let it go for $400 obo, or trade it for a pair of Millet Everest boots (or similar) in good shape, size US 11. The ledge and fly go retail at $925. Call 425-299-7168 if interested.
  10. I just purchased a very cheap ticket to Kat for 1400USD. the departure flight is in August which is the high season and the reason for the higher price. Go through Third Eye Travel, they are the cheapest I have been able to find anywhere, even when searching online. They mentioned it would be a few hundred dollars cheaper if I could fly in Oct. www.thirdeyetravel.com
  11. Looking for a set of overboots that work with Pneumatic crampons. 40below or equivalent. PM me if you have some for sale or trade.
  12. Just returned from the valley and Middle Cathedral and the areas surrounding it are currently closed due to a rockfall incident from the central pillar of frenzy. It's unknown when it will open. Try not to plan any trips around the central pillar of frenzy or the Middle cathedral. Also remember not to bring dogs to the base of climbing areas in Yosemite. Some climbers left their dog at the base, tied up, and it was helplessly injured in the rock fall. It's against park rules anyway. There is plenty of climbing in the valley, so you won't get cut short if you're planning a trip in the next few weeks.
  13. I just returned from the valley and saw Tommy at the base of the Captain. Everyone in Camp4 was buzzing about it. The word didn't really get out until 2 days before he freed it. Apparently there are a few 5.14 pitches. One that I know of for sure. Nice job Tommy...
  14. This thread is a few days old and pretty much talked over. I just wanted to add that not very many people outside of Washington seem to know what MOFA is. (Atleast those that I have talked to in my travels.) Not a single person in the WEMT course I recently took had heard of MOFA. The mountaineers do a great job with these courses, but they're not very well known outside of our area. It might be good to consider taking a WFA course, which is the national equivalent of MOFA if there's a chance you might move. Just a thought... Good luck. However, in the end, either is course is beneficial.
  15. 1st, check with your regular medical insurance provider, if you have one. Most domestic medical plans include international emergency medical care, but not evacuation and/or transport. I have changed insurance companies over the years, but blue cross, aetna, and group health offered to reimburse me should I have to go to the emergency room in South America, Asia, Canada, and Africa, (I'm assuming Europe as well). Check with Access America, a company who offers emergency medical care and evacuation travel insurance. Or you can PM me for more info. http://www.accessamerica.com Have fun on your trip.
  16. WMI of Nols is very good. they offer WFA, WAFA, WFR, and WEMT. http://www.nols.edu/wmi/index.shtml Wilderness medical associates has a very good WFR curriculum. I took a WMA course through Rescue Specialists in Leavenworth. I highly recommend them. http://www.wildmed.com/ http://www.rescuespec.com/
