Also I just sent this email to Bill Wright, CCing Chad Kellogg,

Checkout fido's latest hoax on his website, he claims he is going to give Kellog $2000 if he does a sub 5:30 Rainier climb. http://www.mountainspeedclimbing.org Also, fido now has on his website a video of Chad climbing past the summit register on Rainier. The video actually gives support to Kellog's time as it shows him moving very efficiently and fast for the altitude. Certainly down lower he was moving even faster. You can see the video here: http://www.mountainspeedclimbing.org/KelloggVideoEvidenceMarkedSlowPaceDuring2004RanierSpeedClimb And if yous scroll to the bottom of this page you can read fido's so-bogus-it's-funny analysis: http://www.mountainspeedclimbing.org/2004MtRainierDisputeChadKellogg.htm

Which one of us put the 10" ruts in Cloud Cap rd?
Gaper_Jeffy replied to Gaper_Jeffy's topic in Oregon Cascades
I've never skied higher then the top of the 'dome, but I've wanted to ski the full Sunshine route before and I'm pretty sure you could ski all the way from the ridge w/o much dificulty when it's in shape. Iain would know better then I. The photo is from the middle of last June, it sure looked like the full Sunshine route would have gone then. -
Was he kidnapped by a horde of sexually pent-up, desperate MILFs who tied him up then took endless sexual advantage of? Clubsport's a cool place, I just hope they treat their employees well. I'm actually headed there right now, but first I'm going to do some shopping in Bridgeport Village.

Which one of us put the 10" ruts in Cloud Cap rd?

Hey wait, I didn't mean to call the USFS lame for wanting to wait for the road to dry out, rather I was refering to how astounded I was by how short the receptionist was with me, and how long it took her to tell me the status of the road. She must have been a MILF, because she was so difficult. Anyway, lets start thinking about this: -
"Free 5 hours per day of childcare" Translation: "Preferred candidate a MILF" I do find it alarming that for the $87 a month I fork over to them they're only offering, "$7.25-$8"? Is that a typo? That's horrible!

I just called the USFS re Cloud Cap road. They informed me that their engineer had just returned from examining the road and found conditions very wet, and that someone had *SHOCK* driven around the gate and left "10" ruts"(sic) in the road. They stated it'll be another 2 - 3 weeks before opening, unless we get another period of hot weather.. Also, Timberline’s telemetry shows 1.77”s of precip falling in the past 24 hours with temps hovering in the mid 30s. That’s like 17”s of freshiez above 7500ft!

If you just want photos of them taken on Saturday, see this in freshiez zone.

Climb: Middle Sister-Camp Lake Date of SKI: 5/28/2005 and 5/29/2005 Trip Report: Our plan to ski the SE Ridge of Middle was thwarted by intense thunderstorms Saturday night, followed by rain and threats of more thunderstorms Sunday morning. We made one run above Camp Lake early Sun am in-between periods of rain, we found the snow surprisingly well-consolidated and of excellent skiing quality. We hiked out in the rain Sun morning. The views and the experience of a new area more the made up for the lack of skiing and being soaked. Photos: The views going into Camp Lake were spectaculor. They included, North Sister from the Southeast: Middle Sister from the East: Broken Top from the North: We camped at Camp Lake, which has this amazing view of the Northeast of South Sister: Around 6pm our camp was very rapidly engulfed in clouds: This was soon followed by intense thunder, lightening, heavy rain and gusty winds. We took shelter in our tents. We got up around 5am the next morning with a lull in the rain. It looked like more was on the way so we took just a short run above Camp Lake. Here was the view of the SE ridge from there: We found the snow suprisignly conslidate, it was nice summer corn. Andy: Ann: Soon it was raining again. We headed out: An interesting gauge of the amount of rain that fell was Squaw Creek. Here's the logs we used to cross on Sat afternoon: Here's those same logs Sunday morning: We will be back! PS: There is a more verbose TR here on TAY. Gear Notes: SKIS SKIS SKIS SKIS Approach Notes: Find a friendly Sasquatch to carry your packs and skis. PS: Am I suppose to post TRs in the Freshiezzone or in the Oregon Cascade forum? I like this forum the best.

We kept with the plan and were in there Saturday and Sunday. I'm going to post a short TR in the freshieze forum in a bit. We had a blast exploring a new place, getting great views and experiencing some astounding weather. I'm sure you guys can relate to that. If I had the chance to do this trip all over again--and I knew the precise weather in advance--I would do it again!

Does anyone have a report from skiing today (Friday). I just got a highly convincing phone call to go swimming instead of sking, it is creating lots of self doubt.
-
I heard they are all daytrips, especially when done in succession and with Bachy and Broken Top added. The SE Ridge has been on the list for too long. Have fun this weekend!
-
I greatly appreciate and respect those that volunteer their time to local SAR groups. From my limited understanding it seems to require a very significant time commitment that takes away from personal mountain time. Kudos to you for considering it, it is a huge, selfless form of public service.

Oh and I googled the Mazama's site. Nancy Miller is a climb leader, the Ama Dablam climb was a Mazama climb and she has assisted with the Intermediate Climbing school.
-
It is too bad experience does not equate good judgment. This was a highly avoidable accident, not a freak act of god which you Mazamas seem to be suggesting by repeatedly pointing out how "experienced" they were. I would have loved to gotten on something steep and high this weekend but the mountains were *screaming* redlight conditions up high. I do not consider myself "very experienced", yet it was still crystal clear to me how dangerous conditions were. Please stop dropping the e bomb in a way that suggests this was a freak accident. One of the kindest gestures I believe we can make to those injured/killed is to learn from their mistakes. Lets try to do that. I wish them a super fast recovery!

That's a good list, Iain. We had low to moderate scores on shovel compression tests done at the top of Heather canyon @6900ft on Saturday. One test failed on 12 (10 from wrist, 2 from elbow) another on 14. There were seveal different layers sliding In less wind-affected areas we had higher scores. Lets hope everything bakes down quickly!

That's really WI4? Anyway it's probably melted by now.

You probably have atleast an hour before it melts:

You just had your inaugural run on them? I thought you bought a pair back at the beginning of the season . . . Edit: BACHY isn't going to be running lifts on Memorial Day? Wow. -
Ops I was halucinating again. I'd use caution on the steeper routes on Hood this weekend. The recent precip translates to new snow up high, and it's suppose to heat up this weekend (freezing level 15k?). Things will be coming down if it gets hot. It may take a lot of self-control to mitigate play on the fun stuff on the first fully sunny wkend in several weeks. YMMV

Skis.

Try TTips. The best way to ski Lassen is with two cars. Park one on the northside side, another on the southside. Hike up the southside, ski down the northside to 2nd car. Repeat ad nausea.

You rock Timmy. 1-2' at Devils Lk? Yikes. What are the best places to car camp along Cascade Lks Highway right now for the traveling PDXer?

Those boots kind of look like the older, blue TLT4Pros.
