  1. Has someone tried this with a Barryvox yet? I have to replace my Zipka and if this is a problem I guess I will get the old model. I can't tell what the results mentioned above are...
  2. I snowboarded in a pair of arctic pants (thin shell with snap-in manmade insulation) for about 5 years - super warm, impact resistant (for the butt) and made me look like a little punk. Nice purchase for $30 as opposed to $150 for something from a ski store. Alas - the waterproofing on the shell finally wore off, so I cut em off and used them for bike shorts for a couple of years. Now there are about 4 threads left.
  3. I second Tunnel Vision - better in warm weather than in cold. Very unique route, and fun.
  4. You know, I am a big fan of climbing literature and I put that one down after a couple of chapters. The writing was terrible and dry and I put it down pretty fast. Luckily I got it for free from someone cleaning out their bookshelf. Worth every penny.
  5. I know I have seen a list somewhere of markers that are "safe" to use on ropes...I tried a couple of searches here and couldn't find anything. Is the issue that there is a chemical (in some markers) that degrades the sheath? I am a big fan of the bi-pattern, myself - but I have a friend who wants to mark their rope. Thanks!

  7. I have at least one 60m, probably one or two more that are cut shorter. You are welcome to have them. PM if you still need them.
  8. I have the Casio Exilim Z4u - comparable size and price to the Optio S4. it has a 2" LCD and fast shot-to-shot time, and is a miser for batteries. my 2c.
  9. I recall seeing a link SOMEWHERE on the board (yes, I searched for it) about a knot made with cordage that could be used to function as an adjustable daisy. Does anyone have that site bookmarked?
  10. I am trying to get together a standard Climbing/BC ski first aid kit - I started with a cheapo little REI kit and have added tape, ibuprofen and am looking for moleskin (where is the best place to find this?) What are your requirements for a good kit? (If this should go to another forum have at it.)
  11. Casio EX-Z3 shouldn't be $375... I got the EX-Z4U for $400 in January. It is a 4 MP camera, almost as small as the Optio but better battery life and way bigger LCD. I like it a lot...also 'cause the shutter lag is about as short as any digital I have played with, and the powerup time is something like 1.5 seconds. "The best camera is the one you have with you".
  12. thanks...
  13. UBB14-ML-322954-ML- Moved to Local Gear Shops forum, as you're more likely to get an answer there.
  14. I have chased it from North Bend to Renton - now it seems to be shuttered, with stacks of boxes inside. Anyone know if the cheapo gear outlet is going to a new place?
  15. I second the positive review... Have it, love it. I was hesitant, 'cause I was afraid it wasn't made by a pack-specific company, but I love it. Works great for BC boarding, would work great for skiing as well. the way that the top is set up keeps it out of the way and also lets you cinch the pack way down or expand it mightily. I also use it for climbing - accessing gear thru the back panel is waaay handy.
  16. Reimer's is great - limestone, bolted, 1 pitch. There is a daily entrance fee (private land) but I think it is about 5 bux.
  17. I think they are talking about these guys... "Rock-climbing subcontractors, racing an approaching storm, worked yesterday to place a string of electronic reflectors and highly sensitive Global Positioning System sensors across the fractured slope. With bitter winds whipping through the canyon, the work — conducted by climbing up the face from below to gear caches dropped by a helicopter — was precarious. "
  18. Does anyone know if the climbing area has been affected? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2001791125_slide14m.html Seems to be close, but looks like it is a bit east of the area...
  19. Frank is, indeed, retiring. Tim is a close friend, extremely knowledgeable and one of the coolest people I have ever had the opportunity to rope up with... sorry to see the store close.
  20. We were parked at the trailhead for the Squaw yesterday with about 6 other cars - my suzuki and a black truck (both with WA plates) got damage - BC plated cars were untouched. My car got its passenger side window smashed - I lost a sleeping bag and pads, my partner lost a wallet and some clothes. The truck got a rock thru the windshield. I figure it wasn't climbers - crash pad and rack were untouched. When we reported it to the mounties they said the same thing had happened Saturday. Unfortunately I had not heard. I don't want to fan any flames here, (I have only met VERY kind and hospitible Canadians up there) but if you want to climb at the Squaw - I would suggest walking from the Apron parking lot rather than parking at the trailhead.
  21. If anyone is planning a trip to Skaha this weekend, you might want to check before going... I was going to meet some friends up there this weekend, but they were turned back at the gate, the people who own the property that the parking is on are in the midst of an insurance dispute. Does anyone know more of the specifics on this? Has this been discussed here before? Is there a good local place in Penticton to check on closures? Also - is there alternate access to the bluffs? There is no parking in the neighborhood outside of the property... chad
  22. I think that the mid-range works pretty well - I *dont* like the smaller sizes and the bigger sizes feel a bit narrow for good stability, but the yellow size works really well. I have the yellow, blue and red - I can't remember off hand which is the largest but I would recommend the smaller 2 of those 3. And of *course* they don't compare to Camalots, and the price definitely reflects it. Good to double up your rack.
  23. I *love* my Bolle Contours. They have good periphial vision and fit my face well, and I like the vermillion tint. They are in the lower-mid price range (I think about $40). All goggles will fog. Even the ridiculous ones with the fan. The only way around it is to put them on when you first get on the lift and DONT take them off until you are in the lodge. IMHO.
  24. I got a gift cert. from Mountain Gear and I want to buy a small around-the-camp and backup LED headlamp. (I have the Duo Arctic for heavier use). I have used a Tikka a few times and like it, and I have played with a Zipka but am not sure I trust the suspension...has anyone had a Zipka strap break on them?
